I have a shotgun I am trying to get some info on.

It is a double barrel 16 gauge Savage shotgun. one Barrel says Savage Arms Corporation, Utica N.Y. USA. Other barrel Special Alloy-Forged Steel. Side plate says Fox Sterlingworth.

Any idea on what one of these is worth. This on is probably in 85% shape.

Thanks in advance for any info!

Post this down on Harley Nolden's forum,Serge, and you'll get the collectors answering PDQ.

FWIW, the worst thing you have is a good shotgun. Fox was a superb marque, but Savage bought the name and turned the name into a budget line. Depending on age, you may have a real collector's item or a decent shooter.

CAVEAT: Like all other old guns, this should be gone over by a competent smith before firing the first shot.

Wedge:
Ansley H. Fox established the Fox Gun Company in Baltimore, Maryland in 1896. Subsequently he made guns under the name Philiadelphia Gun Company.. As of 1905 he operated under the name A.H. Fox. In 1930 the company was purchased by the Savage Arms Co who continued mfg'ing all grades of Fox Shotguns. As of 1942, the Savage Company only made the plainer grades.

FOX Sterlingworth:
Mfg'd from 1911-1946

As previously mentioned there are several grades of these guns and a value would be difficult to detemine. According to the Standard Catalog of Firearms, 9th Edition values vary from $1,000.00 to $25,000.00

In 1939 Savage introduced the Fox Model B. It was designed to fit better and have a better finish than offered by the Stevens Model 530. This shotgun was made until 1988 in many variations. Values range from $1000.00 NIB $350.00

My guesstimation would indicate that you have the Fox Model B.

Thanks

Yeah I saw that in the book... I also have a Springfield side by side copyrighted 1915. Gonna take em to a gun show and ask a few people there that sell em to help me grade and price em.

Thanks for the info!

What's wrong with Fox B?

Hi all,
There's nothing at all wrong with the Fox B. I've carried one in the field since I was just a kid. It's a great shotgun, although they may never be valued at tens of thousands of dollars. I've hunted with mine all over the western states and broken thousands of clay targets with it. Nothing wrong with that.
