Help on Ruger Alaskan Front Sight

I got a HighViz front sight blade for my Ruger Alaskan 44 mag. It's not pre-drilled so I'm curious how you folks would go about drilling the blade without buggering up the frame (if that is used as a drill guide for the blade) and getting a proper diameter hole so the existing sight pin can still be used. I'm not even sure if that sight pin is a roll pin or solid? What do you folks think? Smithy.

I use a drill bit that fits the hole in the sight ramp, clamp the new (undrilled) blade in place, and drill the hole using the old hole as a guide, re-installing the original pin or loctiting in the shortened-to-fit (grinder) shank of the drill bit used.
