Somoss:

BE ABSOLUTELY SURE YOUR SHOTGUN IS EMPTY! ! ! TRIPLE CHECK & VERIFY THIS FIRST ! ! !

Look at the butt-plate of the shotgun. You should see 2 small holes, with phillips-head screws in them. Remove both screws, take off the butt-plate, then look deeper inside the stock cavity. You will see either a hex-head bolt or a plain (flat) screwdriver slotted type head. Find the proper tool, and tighten up that bolt a bit. (if a hex-head bolt, most likely is 1/2" or 9/16", I don't remember which) Replace the butt-plate and screws, and you are done.

Same procedure if you are changing to/from a pistol-grip.

It will be a large screw, a big flat-head screwdriver will fix it. I had the same problem after I put the stock back on after installing the PG. Just remember to tighten that up good when switching stocks.

Loose Mossberg 500A stock

I had the same problem and no matter how much I tightened the stock screw, it would not tighten up. The problem was that the inner boss of the stock that contacts the rear of the receiver was machined a little too long and there was a high spot on it that prevented the stock from contacting the receiver at all points. It's a little hard to describe, but the screw tightened on this high spot which created a sort of pivot point around which the stock still jiggled. The fix is a standard stock fitting (inletting) job to make sure all points of the buttstock contact the rear of the receiver equally. Clear as mud?

washers? gaskets?

i did a u described and you were right on, large flat head...now tight..gun feels norma. i noticed that when i took the but plate off there was a flat gasked, is it possible to get more or thicker gaskets do the but of the fun has a longer end to trigger distance (laymans terms). i think i need it to be a little longer....
