Help Norinco SKS

I am trying to help a friend out with his Norinco SKS. He is having a problem with the tip of the shell casings cracking or breaking off. Not sure if it is happening before or after firing. Only see the result after it ejects. I have compared his breach & magazine to mine and nothing is jumping out at me as being the problem. The only thing I can see is his appears to chamber the round on a slightly steeper angle. "Note" we are both using the stock integrated 10 round magazines. If anyone else has seen this issue and corrected it I sure would appreciate hearing from you.

Steel cased ammo?

His chamber may be corroded enough that the ammo is expanding and cracking. Or, excess pressure could cause it. Those are my guesses.

Chack

I don't have one of his shells but he told me it is cracking and breaking right at the transition where the smaller dia. meets the larger. I took the bolt out and looked at the barrel, hard to tell it there is significant wear. It is too far in too see. No signs of serious damage. My guess is also it is wore to the point of not trapping the shell tight enough and the shell rupturing.

That's called the neck

Pretty unlikely with a chrome bore/chamber due to simple wear unless many 10s of thousands of rounds were shot from it.

I've seen people shoot 5.45x39 or 5.56 x45 in AKs or an SKS and think that their gun was bad because it malfunctioned and the cases looked wierd after they were extracted.

Is is possible he's shooting the wrong ammo?
