HELP!New Wilson KZ is a jam-o-matic

goat

I have a brand new KZ 45 and had chance to shoot it yesterday.Or at least try to shoot it.It fails to feed at least 2 times from every mag. Both mags do the same thing.I tried full mags, down loaded mags, all the same.I am using PMC 230 grain and PMP 220 grain.Same results with both types.Gun was clean and well lubed but not overlubed. What is going on with this CUSTOM gun?

Wilson usually supplies a recommended ammo list with their guns. I do not believe either of the loads you mentioned is on there. My Protector did take some break in and during this time it in fact only liked the loads listed on that sheet. After about 500 rounds, it would eat anything.

Wilson customer service is second to none and they will make it right whatever the problem turns out to be.

You gotta be kidding me right?? Spend that much money on a weapon and they want you to use their "recommended" ammo?

I know certain guns can be fickle with certain ammo types, but you figure theirs would digest anything.

The Wilson Combat® team has spared no effort in their quest to create the world's finest and most efficient fighting handgun.

The above quote is from the Wilson Combat webpage concerning the KZ-45 Tactical Carry Pistol. Hmmm..I wonder if you can find their recommneded ammo type in battle?

In all fairness, I'm sure it will break in after a bit of shooting. And if you send it in they will fix any problems you may have. Still..it would chap my butt to spend that much and have to send it in for additional work.

What's amusing is, Wilson's recommended ammo is the inexpensive Czech Sellier and Belloit ball. Decent practice fodder, but a bit dirty.

I like to break in new pistols with clean ammunition. Pro Load for instance.

Hmm

Nothing wrong with a company recommending specific types of ammo for a break in period. I don't know the complete list, but if the other ammo is anything like S&B they're recommending hot ammo. That makes sense because tolerances are very tight and they need to mate properly.

Actually, the recommended ammo list is pretty long, its not just a few rounds.

But a $1000 pistol should never leave Wilson's with jamming problems.

Fortunately, Wilson's has some of the best customer service around; if you send it back to them, I bet they will get it working and back to you in about a week.

However, I would break the thing in good before sending it off... sometimes tight 1911s do weird things for the first couple of hundred rounds.

I agree, this isn't KEL TEC we are talking about.:D

Hopefully things go well for you. I'm seriously considering getting one.

Knock on wood, so far mine has been 100%. I would try different ammo myself, as I have had good luck with the S&B.

My WWII Reproduction from Colt will shoot ANYTHING headstamped .45ACP, even crappy (out-of-spec) reloads. It didn't come with a "recommended ammo" list either.

Look out Mister Wilson, Colt is back in town!

Wilson is concerned about Colt like... Well, I don't know like what but it isn't a whole lot, I'd bet.

I recommend contacting Wilson customer service. Their quality of service is legendary. I cannot imagine that they cannot make right whatever may be wrong.

For what it's worth, I would look at the recoil spring before sending it back. I would bet that Wilson installs a spring on the heavy side of the tolerance to insure that the gun doesn't get hammered by the Hot loads, and may be too heavy to properly time the slide for lesser potent loads, therefore you would get jams as the slide is moving rearward too slowly and then forward too fast for proper ejection. I would try a lighter spring. If it works, you will now have a spring for both types of ammo that you might use.
