Help needed from you Ruger P95 shooters....

I post this with some reluctance because I KNOW I'm gonna get whacked by all the CZ, Glock, etc., shooters, taking cheap shots, but here goes - :p

Recently, I've noticed that my P95DC rattles - that is to say that with the mag out, in battery or slide back and locked, it rattles. I discovered that when I push on the chamber end of the barrel, it moves - not much, but it moves.

Last night, I took it to a local range and put about 50 rounds through it. It sprayed bullets all over the target. I had several other handguns which I also shot, and they all stayed in the black at least. But the P95 had a mind of it's own.

Now I'm fairly certain that the barrel on this gun is NOT supposed to wiggle/rattle - at least not when it's in battery. I haven't consulted any gunsmiths yet. I'm prepared to send it back to Ruger, but I'd rather not, if I can avoid it.

Any ideas?

The barrel SHOULD NOT move while the gun is in battery, but it will move around while the slide is locked back. If you can move the barrel while it is in battery, then this is a major problem and will effect accuracy. I have shot a lot of P95s, and they were all fairly accurate guns. I'm assuming that since your other guns are shooting fine, then there would not be any shooter error involved to cause inaccurate grouping. I recommend stripping the slide and the barrel, and clean each of them as best as possible. Reassemble the gun, and check to see if the barrel will still move in battery. If so, just let a gunsmith look at the gun. He will tell you what your options are.

As with Jason, my P95DC doesn't rattle and it's pretty accurate.

I recommend you send it to the factory for a checkup.

I'll third that...

My 95DC is tight, and shoots the tight groups (well, as tight as I can shoot anyways).

Have you tried stripping the gun down and reassembly, to see if something's just not seated right...or to check that everything seats the way it should.

Otherwise...send it to the factory and have 'em check it, it shouldn't rattle.

Good luck!

Check the link under the barrel and other insternals. If you cannot find or fix the problem, a trip to the gunsmith is in order.

My cousin's P-95 doesn't exhibit much play in the slide, but the barrel hood does have some play in it. Another Ruger P-89 I examined had similar play. My cousins' ruger shoots great, however... even with the play. One thing you might check... next time out shooting, check the fit of the barrel hood while there is a round in the chamber. There should be very, and I mean very, little play or none at all. Hope this helps!

P.S. Both my Berettas exhibit slight play on the front of the barrel and at the breach, but they shoot great!
