Help - Need SERIOUS Barrel Cleaner

My Makarov has developed some really stubborn barrel stains/deposits. My existing cheapo barrel cleaning kit consists of a bronze brush and a combination cleaner/oiler fluid followed by patches.

All the deposits are just ahead of the chamber and seem to be on the lands as opposed to being in the grooves.

I only shoot FMJ's so I don't see how it could be lead fouling. Someone I know suggested copper solvent thinking that it could be jacket material.

Could it also be burning or gas flow by (I'm struggling here) or could the chrome lining be wearing away.

Suggestions very much appreciated.

If you believe the accuracy you're experiencing to be substandard (possibly due to this), you might want to look into a replacement barrel.

However, if the performance seems unaffected, it might be wise just to live with it. I'd give Sweets 7.62 and a stainless bore brush a try. Be careful with commercial stain removers though; cleaners like CRL will trash the finish of most firearms, especially blueing.

Snowdog - thanks, I'll look out for some Sweets

Jim - I'm grateful for any ideas, what was yours ?

MPro 7 Bore Gel would work well, and it's not too harsh on finishes. Unprotected wood finishes and some cold bluing will be removed, though.

Apply the gel to a bore mop, let it sit for about 15 minutes, then run your brush through. Repeat as necessary. MPro 7 doesn't attack the copper or the lead; it dissolves the layer of carbon that the lead and copper is sticking to. One of the guys at my shop had a Smith with a severe leading problem, and a good dose of MPro 7 had the lead falling off in big chunks.

It's one of our most popular cleaners at Blast-O-Rama.
