Help my Model 36 fell apart

While at the range, I went to reload after firing a couple of cylinders worth and the cylinder dropped right off the front of the gun, yoke and all.

1 What happened and can I fix it without involving a gunsmith?

2 Is it safe to use?.... I can slide everything back together and it seems to lock up fine

I'll bet the frame screw (in front of the trigger, opposite side of the gun from the yoke) backed out until it no longer retained the yoke. I had this happen once.

You should be OK once everything's reassembled.

Actually, it's completely ruined. Send it to me for disposal. . . :)

yoke tension screw

almost surely the front screw in your sideplate worked loose..this places tension on the cylinder yoke. the yoke screw should be properly fitted and if replaced with the wrong-type screw or improperly fitted this may be a problem..but torque it up good and give it another try. if it continues to work loose drop by a pistolsmith's and they can fix it.

That was it ....I tghtened the screw and it is fine now. Thanks for the reply. The right answer is never very far away on this board
