As an owner of a 686 and 629, both 4 inch I was thinking about an older Smith & Wesson my brother had purchased in college. I called him and asked him to describe the gun. He called and described this. The CTG is the unknown.

Smith & Wesson .38 Special, 5" barrel
One side of barrel - 38 S&W Special CTG
Other side - Smith & Wesson
Model 14-3 ??
Serial # 14K23**

He sent no pictures

Any info would be appreciated.

A model 14-3 is the older brother to this 14-4.

Classic K-38 Target Masterpiece from 1967 or 1968.

CTG = Cartridge. In this case... .38 Special, or more correctly the .38 Smith & Wesson Special.

Your brother has a good one.

Thanks Joe, He said he bought it new in the late '70's. Does this mean it was on the shelf for a decade or more? It is in 98-99% condition. He isn't selling but what do you think it may be worth?
Rick

BTW, nice piece you have!!

With a 14K serial number it was made in 1977 so your brother did get it fresh off the assembly line.
