help me to choose nite sites

I've been shooting a ghost ring and tru-glo fiber optic front sight for about 2 years now on my carry gun, a Glock 19. I like it a lot better than the stock sights, but I value my Glock as a carry gun and I'm seriously considering nite sites now. Since it took me six months or careful contemplating to decide on a carry gun, I'm in the same dillema with the nite sites. I figue you guys can answer some questions for me. Please correct any of my wrong assumptions.
(1) Trijicons seem to be top of the line, with Meprolites being a close second. Both are Tritium. Glockmeister says the Meps' tritium is contained in a glass tube with a white circle painted on, and nothing about the make of Trijicons. I have heard elsewhere that the white circle on Meps is plastic, which won't wear off. Glockmeister is currently selling the Meps for 65$. I've heard people say they hate Meps, but haven't given a specific reason. What's the big difference between the two, and are the white circles on Meps paint or plastic? The way a sight looks in the daytime is important to me too (my eyes aren't that good), but I don't like paint. If the Meps are cheaper, crisper in daylight, and just as good at night I'll buy a set.

(2) I've heard of PT sites, Trilux, and Heines on the web, but I've never seen any info on them. What can you fellas tell me about these sights? Good or bad points, price?

thanks for all the help!

I have Trijicons and PTs and in my opinion the Trijicons have the superior brightness. Both sets are green dots so they compare well. I bought these a few years ago but kind of got away from wanting nite sights on my guns so I haven't bought any for a while.

I've got PT's on my G30 and G21. I've got Trijicons on my Sig P220. The Trijicons are 3 years older and significantly brighter. The sharp corners on the PT's tore the liner in one of my suits. I won't buy them again.

I have Meps on a G27, and Trijicons on a G21 as well as two SIG's. The Trijicons are much more crisp and distinct.

I have a set of MMC's box bar night sights on a G23 and like them alot. They do offer the dots,(if you don't like the Glock stock sight picture) and in different colors. Fully adjustable, easy to install, great customer service, and 15 year lamp warranty.

I've had good luck with Trijicons, Wilson "nite eyes", MMC adjustable dot (tritium) sights.
Lastest night sights I've tried are the Ashley express Big Dot tritium sights ( www.ashleyoutdoors.com ). I like these a lot... to me, they are ideal for a self defense pistol - not good for target work past about 15yds. I put them on a G30 and G19. Give them a look.

Here you go Big Al. All those people who vote for MMC you can count as votes for P-T. Since they are in the same place, P-T does the inserts for MMC. The P-T sights are not as bright as Trijicons, that is intentional, not due to lower quality.

I've read that due to a high volume of sight-related warranty returns, Glock is switching their OEM night sights to Trilux. I've HEARD that they outperform all the other brands and last longer, but I haven't found a place that sells them yet, nor have I had a chance to talk to anyone who has actually tried them. I don't know that I can recommend them, but from the sound of things, they might be worth checking into. Just a thought. Otherwise, I'd go with the Trijicons.

One of the posters mentioned that Trilux is being used as the new tritium nightsight for Glock. I also have seen the Trilux as the new factory sight for the Beretta. From what I gathered through "rumor control" the change over is due more to cost of sights than problems with the sights.

Trilux is the "new kid" on the block. They are the ones in the Ashley Express sights and are warranted as printed on the package for 5 years.

I have had Ashleys Big dot tritium on two guns for 2 years without failure but that is not a measurement yet. Trilux has only been around for about three years

Gun companies are businesses. Unfortunately they also sometimes goof when looking for the best price and not the best value.

Here is a list of the sight websites I know of. Hope this helps

Thanks for all the help guys! How much do PT sights go for? The MMC's looked pricey, but I liked them. Are the PTs similarly priced?

To tell the truth, any of the major manufacturers make a good product. You really can't make a bad choice!

I've had a pair of Meps on my G19 for a few months now and I don't have any complaints. They give very good daytime acquisition, and plenty of light at night. If anything, they are maybe a bit too bright? I constantly hear that the Trijicon sights are brighter. Not a selling point IMHO. The Meps have a very good rep for service.

I have a set of Heinie SlantPro Straight Eights on my Kimber. He offers these same sights for Glocks. One of the things I really like about the Heinie straight-eight sights is that the tritium capsules DON'T have big white rings around them. In daylight, they offer very much the same clean, uncluttered, "un-dotted" sight picture of his plain sights. The tritium capsules are not very evident at all. The other thing I like about the sights are the way they are cut. In the day light, they do not pick up light and glare at you, no matter where the light source is.
