Help me scope my new Rem700 300 RUM

Hawkeye fan

Hello. This is my first post here. I was invited to go on a Colorado elk hunt next fall so I needed to buy a new rifle. I shot my friends Winchester model 70 chambered in 300 RUM and liked it. I bought a new Remington 700 CDL in 300 RUM and have been banging my head for the last week looking for a good scope for it. That's what brings me here. I've been a Bushnell fan for several years. I have an elite 3200 on my Encore muzzleloader and love it. I also have some cheaper Bushnells on 22LR, 22 magnum and a cheap 243. Those were no brainers because they are mostly just plinkers for my boys and I. I am just starting to get into rifles. I've been shooting handgun for as long as I can remember.

I'm looking for a scope that will stand up to the punishment of the 300 RUM. So far I have looked at an Elite 6500 4.5-30x50 I'm thinking that it will be a nice fit for my rifle. Has anyone had any problems with them? I'm also looking at Vortex that was recomended to me by a friend at work.

One more thing...What do you recommend for a mount and rings.

Thanks for your time.
Phil

Most of my rifles have either Leupold, Zeiss or Swaro scopes mounted on them. IMHO a hunting rifle is only as good as the glass. I do all of my hunting in NM and CO and the good scopes make a difference in low light conditions when most shots are taken. On my 700 CDL SF in 300 WSM I have a Swaro Z3 4x12x50 mounted on it. It is mounted with 2 piece Talley integral rings. Really like the setup.

phil if you're not looking to spend a bundle on a scope i picked up a cabela's alpha series for my 1895 marlin and it's a remarkable optic for the money. 3 to 12 power 40 mm obj lens with a bdc reticle. the 45-70 hasn't rattled it, and i'm using stout reloads. it's worth a look in my opinion. my understanding is it's made by bushnell. dave

Welcome to the 300 RUM club. To really take advantage of the round, you will need a high magnification scope that lets you take advantage of the long range shots the caliber allows. I have a Nightforce 5.5-22 in Warne rings/mount on mine. The Bushnell 6500 sure has the magnification, can't say anything on the quality.

Thank you all for the replies. I think I am going to go for the 6500...as soon as I have the money saved. Been looking at the tally mounts and I like them. I ordered a gun vise and scope mounting/lapping kit from Midway yesterday. Now to get that money saved for the scope and mount...I would of had the rifle scoped this week but the washing maching decided to crap out on me.

I have a Bushnell 6500 4.5-32 x 56 Elite Tactical.
Mine is the older model with only 50 MOA of internal adjustment.
Some of the newer ones have nearly 100 MOA of adjustment.
It has good clarity up to around 24x but gets a little dark past that.
It has excellent eye relief and is an all around good scope.

A scope that is much talked about these days for good value is the Sightron SIII Series. Some people say it will give a Nightforce a run for its money for 1/2 the price.
My friend has one on order and is expecting it to arrive in the next few days.
I'll let you know what it's like when he gets it.

i also own a rem. 700 in .300rum currently has a simmons aetec on it has been fine but i am going to switch to a nikon monarch
