Help me ID this shotgun

Close friend of mine found a few guns when cleaning out her Dad's house after he passed away.

Most of them were pretty common and somewhat modern rifles.

This one has me stumped.

Thanks for your help!

Sadly, she's in SoCal w/ the weapon, and I'm in Arkansas.

I'm having her go over it with a fine tooth comb to try to find any sort of serial # or writing.

I was hoping the butt plate design might be recognizable. Initially I want to say it's a Remington 1887 but I'm not certain.

Maybe this will help:

Remington Hammer Double Identification, with Serial Number List :

http://www.wisnersinc.com/additional_info/RemingtonDblID.htm

The Remington Double Gun has been made in six models, known as HAMMER LIFTER ACTION, LIFTER ACTION, MODEL '82, MODEL '83, MODEL '85, AND '87. AND MODEL '89, many parts of which differ. Parties owning guns can determine their model by comparing their hammers with the following drawings:

HAMMER LIFTER ACTION / LIFTER ACTION / MODEL 1882 / MODEL 1885 & 87 / MODEL 1889
(The above illustrations taken from an old Remington 1902 parts catalog)

The hammer profile sure looks like the 1887 Remington, IMHO.
