Hello all, new to the forums.

I have need of a cheap, simple .22 pistol. it needs to have an adjustable rear sight and a barrel length of at least 4" for accuracy. now, before all the advice starts flying for me to buy a revolver let me say this. I DON'T WANT A MULTI-SHOT PISTOL!! there i said it. now, i might have to buy one, because what i want might not exist. let me tell you what i'd like. is there anywhere, by anyone, manufactured a SINGLE-SHOT .22 pistol with a simple break-action that is NOT a short-barreled derringer? i figured that if one existed somewhere this would be the place to ask, so thanks in advance for any replies!!

I was going to reccomend the Thompson Center Contender in .22 cal. until you mentioned cheap. I think Comanche/rexio sells a single shot in .22 . You should be able to find them on the gun auction sites or maybe here in the handgun for sale section.

Been looking for years

but still haven't found a simple break open .22 single shot that works reliably and doesn't cost 1/2 a weeks pay. I did once upon a time buy a Thompson Center but it was too bulky and had IIRC a 10 inch barrel. Problem is, who besides you and me would buy such a creation? Not enough profit to be made.

I bought a well used but very functional HD Military and have used it to kill everything from mice to feral pigs. Keep looking and you can find them for around $250 - $300. It is a once in a lifetime purchase. If you only use it for a few hundreds of rounds a year, It will never wear out and will still be worth about what you paid for it. JMHO

Ever heard of Dixi Gun Works? They use to carry the very gun you described. Well...maybe not adjustable rear sights. Its been a long time. I haven't seen a catalog from them in quite a while so I don't know if they still have the gun or not. Good luck in your search.

I don't understand why you would want a single shot pistol or revolver 22?

Get a single action 22 revolver and only load one chamber. (Ruger Single Six is the best for the price in my opinion.) Works for me. Load one round in a semi-auto....

Colt made the Camp Perry prior to WWII. Cheap it is not though. You'd be looking at $2K.

You can't always get what you want. IIRC, the closest to that is a bolt action 22lr. Like a small rifle, but, super accurate, and, under 300 dollars.

Joking aside, over the years a number of single shot handguns have been made. The obvious and most popular example is the Thompson Contender in 22LR. In most years of the Gun Digest, there is a section at the end of handguns listed as "Handgun-Miscellaneous". I pulled out the 2004 digest and other than the Contender: the Comanche Super Single Shot Pistol (Retail $175) and Gaucher GN1 Silhouette Pistol, ($425 Retail), Maximum single shot pistol, $800, RPM SL single shot pistol, $1045. I have no idea of the quality.

This approach could yield a lot of potential single shot handguns to consider if you could find one. Hit a good book store and dig out a Gun Digest to look at and check what is available. I tend to have the Pre-2000 GD's, but not the many of the more recent editions.

The 2006 Gun Digest lists the Gucher still. Mostly derringer's listed. The Anschutz Model 64P (Retail $456) is a long barreled bolt action handgun with a 5-shot magazine. In any of these kind of handguns, you could easily feed only cartridge as you shoot it.

I'm bringing this one back from the dead. I'm looking for the same thing.
Single shot, 22lr, I then want to cut, crown, and thread it for suppressor use.

Can't hunt/trap with semis in PA. Revolver doesn't work with the can.

A couple years back I picked up a Beeman SP Deluxe .22lr single shot side lever pistol from a member here. It was affordable, looks cool and shoots well.

I have one of those Crossman. I prefer a quiet 22. I would get a Ruger Single Six and just load one as mentioned before.

Thank you w_h for the only relevant post. I'll ask on another board.

ETA: Thank you Microgunner, skimmed over because I saw Beeman.

The Savage 101, the Sheridan Knocabout, the Wamo and some old Hy Hunter Stevens repros are all that I can think of as far as "modern" made single shot .22s.

And there was a cheesy Flobert type of single shot .22 made in Mexico called the Mendoza.

Some of the older Stevens single shots that were intended for smokeless powder would qualify, but they generally fall into the realm of collector's items.
