Looking for a new range toy and having trouble deciding, which one would you buy?

  • I am looking at full size and long slide models.
  • I am really interested in opinions from people that have actually fired these guns, I believe actually firing a gun gives you a better perspective about the overall gun than just holding it and dry firing it.
  • Please no other gun suggestions, you will make my life harder if you add another pistol to the mix. I own other pistols I really like, this is strictly a Sig P320 Vs Walther PPQ showdown.
  • I am not going to the range and renting both of them. I rather rent your opinions, its cheaper like this. :)
  • Thanks ahead of time for your help.

My vote is for the Sig. I have to ask though, are you able to rent both? I get that our opinions are cheaper but you get what you paid for...:D. I would spend the $10 or so to rent them if that is an option, you might not like either one when you start slinging lead.

HK VP9 or VP40 you will noy regret it. And definitely not the Sig unless you want to shoot yourself in the junk.

I'm gonna recommend the 320....I've spent time behind the Full size, compact, and sub 320 and every one of them was a dream to shoot.

It looks like with the release of the 365, Sig just won me away from M&P and CZ at least for one gun.

Also note if you don't stuff a gun down your pants without a holster, you'll never shoot yourself in the junk. In fact forget that stupid mode of carry and buy a nice leather OWB pancake, you'll thank me later.

I already own a VP9 and I love it, I am now trying to decide between the Sig or Walther.

The shoot yourself in the junk with the Sig comment is just plain silly and incorrect, please stop spreading false information. Sig has already addressed any concerns with the Voluntary Upgrade Program they are offering and all newly manufactured P320's will already come upgraded.

I have not fired the walther but own 3 320s. 2 full size (9mm/45) and a compact. I have small hands, with the medium grip they are comfortable to shoot, with the small they are excellent. They are all very accurate, have not had any failures in any of them. The truigger is very good. Very consistent and while not as light as ylu would like for target shooting it doesnt seem to impede accuracy. It is very easy to shoot well. Dont fall for this high bore axis bs. The felt recoil on these guns is lighter than almost anything else i have including cz75 and 1911s.

I prefer the SIG P320 and own two, one a full-size in .45 ACP. The medium sized grip module of the P320 fits my hand exceptionally well.

I like the Walther PPQ although I have never owned one. I felt the PPQ trigger to be lighter than desirable for a self-defense pistol, but if you are only using it at the range, you might prefer the light trigger. I know a couple of guys that compete in IDPA who prefer the PPQ for its light trigger and quick reset.

The Walther is pretty comfortable in my hand but the interchangeable back straps do not accommodate different hand sizes as well as being able to change the entire grip (which also changes width) as with the P320. I didn't care for the cheapish polymer sights on the PPQ. The pistol also seemed to have a bit more muzzle flip than I would have expected for a 9 mm pistol of this size and weight. The P320 comes back on target a little more quickly for me.

I have tried both and own the Walther PPQ but both are fine pistols. For the range the Walther PPQ with the 5 inch barrel would be really sweet IMO.

For me not only is the trigger superb with the PPQ but so is the grip.

I had a P320 full size and I have a PPQ and PPQ Navy.

Sig wins on modularity, softer shooting but the grips sucked for me. Walther wins on ergonomics and trigger, but the only modularity is the back strap.

I learned to shoot 9mm on the PPQ and it’s become the benchmark for striker fired pistols for me. Not much has measured up to it.

I did it, I made a decision today. I went and bought a full size Sig P320 Flat Dark Earth in 9mm. I would like to thank everybody for their great opinions (special thanks to: Targa, ritepath, wild cat mccane, 1stmar, TunnelRat, turtlehead, pblanc, sigarms 228, and Areoflyer09).

The grip on the Sig fit my hand just right, I can't wait to get it to the range. Since I already own a HK VP9, the Walther felt very similar to the HK in many ways (that is not a bad thing but I wanted something different).

Good luck with your purchase. My 9 mm SIG P320 is the compact model, but I also shoot it using a carry grip module and the full-size 17 rd magazines.

I like both it and the full-size P320 .45 ACP quite a bit.

Both are excellent but if I could only have 1 it would be the 320. I’ve sold 2 PPQs.
I had such a hard time deciding, I went with the P320 because of how it felt in my hand (you know that feeling you get when you find a pair of shoes that fit great).

Even though I already bought the Sig, I hope others keep commenting and voting in the poll. This thread may help others which are trying to decide which one to buy, I know I had a tough time deciding between both of these excellent pistols.
