help me decide on my next gun

Badness

I don't want to hear any "well would you prefer a revolver or a semi auto?" kind of deal. I want all of them equally and I prefer them equally. I want to hear YOUR reasons why YOU would pick one over the other incase you bring up a point I overlooked.

Thanks. :D

At this point in my life, I'm kinda into revolvers.
Last week it was semi-autos. :D
If it was me getting a new one right now, I have my eye on a Magnum Research revolver (BFR) in 30-30.........

For some reason, I just think that'd be a lot of fun.;)

both types have pluses and minuses. What is more important to you? simplicity of action? higher capacity? less prone for FTF? slimness? ease of carry??

I prefer revolvers, except for .22, because I hate trying to gather my brass from autos. Some folks don't feel comfortable unless they have enough ammo to take out an apartment complex - I don't.

More specifics from you get more specific answers from us :D

Every handgun is a set of compromises and you can only shoot one at a time. If you're going to have several, you don't need a bunch of general purpose handguns; each one should ideally suited to one purpose. Which one you need next depends and what you already have, as well as what possible uses you have. What area would you like to focus on next? Here are a few:

Home defense
Practicing quick draw/gun twirling
Pretty gun to fondle/collect
Historical gun to fondle/collect
Gimmick gun/novelty/conversation piece
Trail gun
Tin can plinker
Snake gun
Small game hunting, close range
Small game hunting, medium range
Concealed carry, pocket
Concealed carry, holster
Large game hunting, close range
Large game hunting, medium range
Large game hunting, long range
Target practice, small bore
Target practice, large bore
Target practice, indoor (air gun)
Target practice, competition (action games, SASS, etc...)

Sooner or later, you will have to own a 1911 .45 acp. You may as well take care of that right now.

For me, I would buy another Colt Python. IMHO, its the nicest revolver ever made.

As far as a semi auto goes, I would go with a Smith Model 52.

For carry, any of the airweight smiths in 38+p

Sooner or later, you will have to own a Ruger Mini-14. You may as well take care of that right now.

Well, badness, help us out a little bit.... what guns do you already own?

That said a good polymer pistol like a Glock, M&P, or XD, is a great workhorse, and very comfortable to carry around all day whether at work, or in the woods.

I would hazard to guess that many of us have a mental list when we look at gunstores or gunshows. Guns we don't want enough to go online to places like "gunpoker" and pull out a credit card, but guns we would like to have if we find one for sale at a halfway good price.

My list includes a Colt Defender in 9mm, and a Gov. in 10mm, plus any older Colt 1911 that hasn't been "improved" with the likes of beavertails and dual ambi safeties, etc. Also looking for S&W revolvers in 10mm, Ruger No. 1s, and the list goes on.

100% reliability right out of the box / an unconditional lifetime warranty of "customer satisfaction" ....a trigger that breaks like glass at 3 1/2 lbs ( with no wobble, slack, etc ) all adds up to Wilson Combat 1911's...

Wilson Combat, 5", Protector model ( base price $2,600 )
all stainless ( more durable ) add $125
ambi safety ( I like the option ) add $35
mag chute ( faster reloads ) add $ 125
4 extra mags about $ 140

so $ 3,025 delivered ...... it should be here in about 8 weeks !
( and pick your caliber 9mm, .40S&W, .38 super, 10mm or .45acp ...)
mine will be in .45acp - because I already have Protectors with the same specs in 9mm and .40S&W ) ....but that's just me ...

holy crap. LOL. Sorry fellas, this was SUPPOSE to be a poll. But I guess i should have realized it wasn't when it didn't even let me put in my poll choices. This is what i get when i browse TFL when i'm working at the same time.

The choices WERE:

Ruger LCR
Ruger LCP
Sig P238
S&W Bodyguard .380
S&W Bodyguard .38 special

However after seeing an LCR up close, i've decided that .38 revolvers are still a little too big than what i'm looking for, so i'm going with a pocket .380. Just don't know which one yet.

One of the biggest advantages of a revolver is sometimes overlooked: you won't lose any brass. Revolvers lend themselves to reloading.

my wife just got her a S&W model 642 (centennial) 38 special with crimson laser grips. We compared it with a Ruger LCR and up close my wife and I werent impressed with thr LCR. Not their warranty, trigger didnt feel any different and didnt care about hald steel and half polymer. The 642 is the best SD pistol I believe was ever made from a revolver but thats me, anway very pleased:)
