Help me decide on a wheelgun...

Looking for a good keeper 357 mag wheelgun. I'm trying to decide between a S & W 686 4" nickeled for $550 or a Colt Trooper...thoughts?

Thats a tough choice because they are both excellent revolvers but I personally would go with the S&W 686. BTW its stainless not nickle. ;)

I'll agree on the Smith although the Trooper will probably be cheaper.

The reason? I prefer the Smith's trigger...

Yup

the Colt is $385 with aftermarket grips on GA...where the Smiths seem a little more expensive. I was a bit surpirsed at this because I thought more collectors would pay for Colt.

Wheel guns

Hello
I would pick the S&W's. They keep there value, and are more abundant. If you need part's they are also out there. The Nickel wheel guns have not been made in awhile, and are rising in value. Here is a pair that are my favorites. The 4" barrel model is a 57 in .41 mag. The 6" is a model 27 in .357. These are very popular and would be the ones I chose. Regards, Hammer It.

Another vote for the Smith though, for me, the nickel finish would do nothing for me. I'd hold out for a stainless.

Nothing against the Colt, but if it were me, I'd opt for the 686. For that matter, I did! Colts are nice guns, all right, but for the long haul I'd still get the Smith.

BTW -- 686's are stainless, not nickeled.

Also -- shop around for that 4" 686. I got mine used back last November for $300 in really good condition, that price you are quoting sounds an awful lot like NIB retail to me.

686 for sure!

My first handgun was a 686, so I'm biased. I would go with S&W simply because of their customer service. Also, as others have written, there are more parts and accessories available for Smiths plus it's easier to find a gunsmith with S&W experience.

Complete the family

Now that you have the "baby bear" 2.5", you need to complete the family with "momma bear" in 4.0" and "poppa bear" in 6.0"!
