Help me choose an optic

I'm brand new to ARs and have decided to pick up a red dot. I'm new to those as well. I've pretty much narrowed it down to either an Eotech 552 or an Aimpoint M2. I'm undecided between the two and don't know which way to lean.

What I like about the Eotech:
More open sight picture
Easier shooting with both eyes
Dovetail mount built-in

What I like about the Aimpoint:
Battery life
Included lens covers
Adjustment knobs

Anyone that has experience with either (or both), I'd appreciate thoughts between the two.

I no longer own an Eotech but I used to mount a PVS14 behind one. If you're looking for an optic to put in front of night vision, Eotech is the way to go.

I only use Aimpoints now because they're tough as nails and the batteries last forever. I bought my first Aimpoint 10 years ago when AR15.com had a group buy on Comp M's. The Comp M has a battery life of 100-1000 hours which is nothing compared to what the newer Aimpoints have and it's still on the original battery. It's also the Aimpoint that I use the most.

I've bought 2 new and 2 used Aimpoints over the years and have yet to change a battery in any of them.

Mostly personal preference. I've used and like both. While I like the Aimpoint's ruggedness & insane battery life I prefer the Eotech's reticle. Both are combat-proven in the sandbox so pick the one that best suits your needs & pocketbook.

After researching the two types I chose the Aimpoints over the EoTechs. I found the single dot reticle on the Aimpoint less "busy", the battery life is much, much better and I just preferred the overall design better.
