help me choose a scope (Leup/IOR/Tasco-SS)

I appreciate everyone's advice thus far on choosing
a rifle (even though I haven't decided). I've eliminated
the PSS, since the VS seems to be pretty much the
same thing. I'm still looking for information (like
where to get it) on the LTR. And I would still like
more first-hand reports of the SBS rifles (like
a snipercountry review, since they've done the others).

Anyway, here are my current scope thoughts:

fixed:

tasco SS 10x for $300 (I know to avoid the side-focus model)
IOR 6x42 for $375
Leup 6x42 for $370/$450 (duplex/mildot)

Probably the only real reason I'm considering fixed
scopes is the incredible deal on the tasco. I worry
however that it will be too much power if that is all
I have. Is 10x too much for 100 yard shooting? I think
the field of view is 12ft or so at that range. Is it
half that at 50yds? I worry that the other two are too
little power for 200/300yd shooting. (not to mention 500/600yd), but I really have no idea.

variable:

IOR 2.5-10x42 for $496/$566 (1"/30mm)
Leup 3.5-10x40 for $440/$530 (duplex/mildot)
Leup 3.5-10x40 M1/M3 for $650/$720 (duplex/mildot)

I really, really like the M1 and M3 (not sure which I would
prefer)...however they are expensive and I'm pretty sure
it will be a long time before my skill can use them
to their fullest potential...so the extra money might
be better spent on ammo. The middle-range leupolds are
somewhat the standard police choice (affordability probably
has alot to do with it), but they bother me a little in
that they don't seem to have any markings on the target
knobs. As an aside, this would seem dangerous in a police
situation if you weren't quite sure how many clicks you
moved the knob and then the range/conditions change??
Anyway, it bugs me a little. The IORs offer a good price
and if the reviews at snipercountry are any indication, they
are crystal clear. My concern with them is two-fold: they
have an odd siting system (MP8) which I'm unsure of...and
they seem to have a different than "normal" sight-in
procedure (loosening small screws and such). So any
experience with that would be appreciated as well.

So anyway, that is my current thinking on the scopes,
any advice is welcome and appreciated...

Pick them up in this order . . .

1) IOR Valdada - Schott Glaswerk Optics are tops. The optical clarity is on even par with my Schmidt Bender which costs 3 times more.

2) Leupold Tactical - Optics are better than average and you've got a lifetime warranty even if you aren't the original owner.

3) Tasco SS10x42 - Fair optics. Quality control varies from scope to scope.

Regards and good shooting. . .

BTW, I do own quite a few scopes.

IOR 2.5-10 x42
Leupold 3.5-10x40 M1 LR
Schmidt Bender Police Marksman II 10x42
US Optics SN3 1.8-10x44
Nightforce NXS 3.5-15x50

I primarily have Leupold's, although I do have, from some years ago, other brands including Tasco. The Leupold's are in my opinion a fine scope. As to whether to get the M1 or M3, opinions vary, but I concluded that the M3's were more suited to what I want to practice. The 1/4 MOA adjustments of the M1's are nice, but I get lost when going to long range, and would rather sacrifice the small adjustments for the less subject to confusion of the 1 revolution only M3. I have two of the 3.5-10 M3s, each mounted on a 19" 308, and the BDC adjustments on both are consistent and reproducible. I have a friend with good sense and a lot of experience who is a big fan of Kahles. I am going to be in a precision rifle class next month with him and will get some experience with that scope then. Regards and good luck

good luck at your class Mark.i still have that 6Xkales if you want to try it out just email and i will bring it to you.

for some reason i am just not a "leupold" guy. perhaps i am too frugal. but owning the same IOR scope you have mentioned, i will have to give a thumbs up on it. as an aside i also like the burris line of scopes. the IOR does have some very nice optics. like looking through glass! wait a minute i am looking through glass!!
but anyway. see if you can find another shooter with an IOR to check out before buying.

I'm leaning quite a bit towards the IOR scopes now
(unless I decide on the M1/M3), my question is:
is it worth the extra $70 to go to the 30mm over
the 1"? Given the clarity of the optics, it might
not be beneficial (doubtful that I'll be shooting
at night). I've also heard that the main benefit
of 30mm is extra 'clicks' to shoot very far away.
Again, shooting past 600yds is not likely for me
(1. don't know of a range that big and 2. couldn't
hit anything anyway). Thanks for all the advice so
far...
