PLEASE HELP ME OUT MEMBERS:
My friend and I are going hiking in Indiana tomorrow. We were wondering if there were any laws against carrying knives(survivalist type) while hiking in Chain O'Lakes State Park in Noble County on the North East of Indiana(close to FtWayne).
Also I have a Florida CCW License and am legal in Indiana but dont know about state parks. Their website only lists schools and airports etc as off-limits. Nothing about state parks.
Thanx in advance,
Anand

Well, good question.
I have a permit to carry in Indiana. That permit says I can't carry on a commercial airliner. It doesn't say anything about not carrying in a state park. When you say you are legal in Indiana what do you mean? Do you have a Indiana CCW permit? As far as knives go.. there are tons-o-people carrying folding knives in a leather cases on their belt, lots of spydercos also, in Indiana state parks. Don't see a lot of tantos though. Knife carry isn't covered by your CCW and I don't believe there are any state regulations (that I know of). I wouldn't carry anything real intimidating, you might get unwanted attention. I always carry a Case Sod Buster, I've carried it in several indiana state parks. Don't know if that answers you question..

Hang tight, help is on the way. I've got a buddy who lives in Indiana and has a CCP who's very up on the laws. He's also on TFL, and I sent him the link to this thread.

Patrick,
Indiana recognizes all other state CCWs. Unfortunately not all other states recognize Indiana's.

As stated your Florida CCW will be honored in Indiana, as to carrying a knife in a state park, I visit Indiana State Parks all the time and never read anything prohibiting carrying a knife of any kind.

I think.. as long as you aren't carrying anything that would cause another hiker to call the cops you'll be OK. If you are carrying a gun legally make sure it's concealed. The important thing here in hoosierland is not to advertise, it brings unwanted attention. Have fun and check for ticks when you're done. :o :)

Chain O Lakes is not too far from my place. I live in Columbia City, in Whitley County.
I am pretty sure while I was at Indiana Dunes one time I read a sign that said no gun carry, but I don't remember seeing anything about knives.
