Help....jammed S&W 3953

I bought a NIB 3953, made in 94 but has been a safe gun. I love this gun and it has 400 rnds thru it. I bought some 147 gr HP Silver Bear ammo :barf: The first round in the chamber will not allow the slide to move. It jammed my gun...only allowing the slide to move back to the point that the barrel starts to drop down. I can see the round if I look in the mag well.
What can I do? Take it to a smith and have them tear it down?
Please any help you can offer would be GREATLY appreciated.

The slide moves back about 1/4" and as the barrel starts to drop down at the chamber ...it absolutely stops. I dont know what it is hanging up on....the extractor? Did I break my gun?

Thanks and shoot well

P.S. My CZ Compact doesnt like it at all either, polished feed ramp, throated chamber and 20# Wolff spring ...didnt make a difference. The rounds nose dived in this gun.....I will avoid this
ammo like the PLAGUE! :barf: :barf: :barf: :D

FIELD EXPEDIENCY

Place a portion of the muzzle end of your slide (NOT the barrel or guide rod -- JUST the slide) against a wooden door frame, the push with your entire body weight.

"Racking" the slide is what you hope to accomplish, thereby ejecting the round.

After you manage that task, take out your barrel and make sure your ammo enters the chamber fully and correctly.

Probably due to an oversized casing.

Make sure you have the gun in a safe direction. Keep your finger off the trigger during this process. At the front of the slide, the slide surrounds the barrel. Please don't look directly at it to confirm. Use a hand mirror on the floor if you must.

The idea is to press the edge of the slide surrounding the barrel on something VERY solid. A 4X4 or 6X6 is a good idea to minimize scratching on the slide. A good place to put the board is on solid soil (no rocks, etc), that way if the pistol does discharge, the bullet will go into the ground rather than bounce off pavement, garage floor, basement floor, etc.

If you are pressing part of the barrel, the slide will not go back. Position the slide so the edge surrounding the barrel is on the board, etc. It works best for leverage to have the gun in a vertical mode, muzzle straight down. Push down really hard!, perhaps several times. Having the pistol straight down can allow you to have good leverage.

The slide should be pushed back, while the barrel stays stationary. This will allow the slide to go back, therefore the extractor can get a bite on the case for extraction.

This can be a knuckle buster so make sure that when the slide DOES go back and extract/eject, and the pistol moves suddenly, that your hands are not gonna get bit on something.

Use caution when you do anything like this, especially with a LOADED weapon. If in doubt as to your chances at success, see a qualified S&W armorer or gunsmith.

Hope this helps.

Weshoot and grip.....it worked. Thank you , Thank you , Thank you. It took a while but I got it past the extractor....got it to field strip and with a little elbow grease and alot of Hoppes 9...it came out....I will never buy this SH*T ammo again.....
You have my word, the next time you are in UT...SLC area...email me ...The cold beverages are on me :D
Thanks again...Eric
Shoot well

A tip for the next time is to drill a hole in that 2x4 slightly larger than the OD of the barrel, makes it very easy to do the trick without slipping and busting a knuckle. :)
