Hello,

Any help in identifying this revolver would be greatly appreciated. Was found underneath a house that was built around 1890.

Thanks

All I can tell you is that it appears to be an open-top revolver.
With that amount of corrosion, its very possible that the top strap is just eaten away.

Appears to be made entirely of ferrous oxide...... not the sturdiest material for handgun frames, even for low powered rounds ........ :D

You do know that most of that will buff out, right?

You'd need to use all the buff in a whole herd of buffalo to begin to get that out, and if ya did ..... there might not be a lot left....

you sure thats even a gun? This isnt one of those things where a piece of rusty frame rail fell off your old chevy pickup and in the rust you noticed a resemblance of a gun and are hoping it will be worth millions like Toast Jesus and Chicken McNugget George Washington, is it?

If only they had Pelican cases in 1890

Other than that I have no clue, just piling on at this point.

Looks to be an example of the fairly rare Rust Bucket Special.

It shot flakes of crusty iron oxide laden with tetanus.

That's real stopping power.

Soak it in Kroil and it will be as good as new.

Seriously, I am not even sure it is a real gun and not a cap pistol. Unless there is some question of historical value or connection, it is not worth bothering with, though it might make an interesting display piece for a local museum.

Doesn't look like any Iver Johnson profile I've ever seen...

I wonder though... I wonder if it could be a kid's toy cast iron gun? They were being made as early as the 1870s.

My grandfather dug up several like that on various Civil War battlefields. Gun shaped hunks of rust really. But they were in better shape than that. We could at least tell if they had been Colts or Remingtons.

Don't let these guys kid you . . . they're only guessing. Now, if you'll give us the serial number and a good close up of the barrel markings and proof marks, we'll nail this one down for you in no time! :D:roll eyes:

On the serious side - it's a nie artifact. It's amazing what a person finds sometimes. At the very least, you've got a great conversation piece! Thanks for sharing with us! :)

Sure looks like it has chambers to me...
