Excellent condition, blues 6 inch 6 shot. Poorly stamped in cylinder yoke area. ?, "17". Having trouble posting pics. On bottom of grip K 812XX.

In the event you are referring to a Smith & Wesson revolver and the number of digits you are referring to after the K prefix are correct, then here are some Models you can google pictures.

Models 14 and 15 (Then this could also include Pre-model variations).

Let us know if this helps or not.

K prefix is the serial. Others are fitting numbers used in assembly. A K means a target grade model with adjustable sights. A 38 Special would have to be a K38 Masterpiece (Model 14) or a Combat Masterpiece (Model 15). If the serial you posted is correct (no omitted digits) it dates to 1949. A 6" barrel would make it a K38 Masterpiece.

Look sort of like this?

And you need to understand that CTG is not a Model designation, it's an abbreviation for "cartridge". That's part of the caliber designation.
Used on multiple models & more than one brand.

Pics not uploading. Missing security token?????

Use the advance and you can upload directly to the thread.
Resize your photos so that they stay under the 250 kb limit for uploading.
Generally at 72 pixels per inch, resize to widest of 1000 pixels and that keeps it under the limit.
On the advance page, right below this box, find the "Attach Files" and click on manage attachments. A new box will open allowing you to choose the files on your computer.

If you are using a URL link for you photos, that may be the security token problem.

Um, not sure what we are supposed to do with a huge blurry image of the meaningless numbers. Again, those were used by workers to keep parts together during assembly and have no use once it's finished. Why are you so focused on those numbers?

The "CTG" abbreviation on the barrel stands for "Custom Target Grade" and is incredibly rare. Only a VERY small percentage of S&W revolvers have this designation and it refers to the guns match-grade barrel. The CTG markings instantly add several hundred dollars to the collector's value. :)

:D

I'm just joking! A couple hours late of April Fool's... oh well!!

If a S&W revolver was made after 1958 the model and often the serial will appear in the yoke area. Your gun is a pre-model so these numbers will not be there. What you have (AGAIN) are meaningless assembly numbers.

Here's a post 1958 S&W...
