Help ID S&W M&P .38 special

I recently acquired a 2 inch square butt k frame 38 revolver. The best I can tell, it is an M&P model serial #304410 with a c stamp further to the left of the serial # on the bottom of the grip. With the cylinder open a number of 12398 is stamped inside the crane and again on the inner frame below the barrel. The front sight is rounded with no flat areas and appears to be part of the milling of the barrel. Any help on the date of manufacture, and value would be appreciated.

Question for you, DanWil:

Does the pistol have any patent dates on the barrel? My curiosity was aroused concerning the pistol.
