I keep hearing about all the great deals everyone gets on their guns, and none of them seem to come from my home state (Kalifornia)!!! I've been tempted to buy out of state. I found some pretty good prices from dealers who advertise on the Web, I've already found an FFL here that will do the transfer for a reasonable fee. Does anyone have any experience with this? Good/bad? Any pointers? Any good Web-based dealers they would like to recommend?
Thanks in advance!

Depends what kind of gun you want. Your FFL dealer should send his signed FFL to the dealer you are buying from. "Some will require your dealer to send the money it is their choice" When your dealer gets the gun and you fill out 4473 and he does NICS on you. If you pass you pay the dealer his fee and go home. "note I don't know if Kalif has any special state laws but your dealer will"
In short it is exactly the same as buying at gun store except you order the gun instead of pick it off the shelf.

Voodoo, I got the same problem.

I see guys here posting, " Just picked up my Kimber Custom for $530" and I cringe. In California you can expect to at least pay $70 more. I got mine on sale for $590 (tax...registration..ect not included) ! California sucks when it comes to gun prices. Likewise, out of the 5 major gun dealers in L.A., only two will do an FFL transfer. One wants $70, the other $125.

So this is what you do. Go to the "Shotgun News" website and do a search on their FFL list. They will often have a number of home FFLs in your area and how much they charge. usually between $15-$40. This is much better than trying to go through a dealer who will overcharge you and try to sell you something else.
