HELP! I broke my bead!

I bought a Meprolight tritium bead front sight for my Remington 870. I have removed beads on Mossbergs with NO trouble at all, so I figured I could do the Remington as well. Grabbed me a pair of pliers and went to turning on the factory bead............Wahlaa........Broke it flush off on the first try!

Is it off to a gunsmith or can this be fixed with some more of my "highly skilled home gunsmithin"?
 
The newer Remington's seem to have a brazed on bead, so they snap off when you try to unscrew them.

I'd suggest filing off the broken stub, (if any) center punch it and drill and tap a new hole. A good home hobbiest should be able to do this with the proper sized drill and tap.
 
Ghost rings have a place, but my shotgun will never be fired at more than 15 yards so the tritium bead will serve me better.
 
Never? Never say never my friend. :cool: What if your called upon to hit a target thats 100 yards away with a slug? What if you need to hit something further than 50 yards away in order to save your life? Never say never. You just dont know what awaits you out there. :rolleyes:
 
Your right about not knowing what awaits you "out there" .........which is why I have an AR and an AK. I wouldnt take the shotgun outside the house, so for all of my uses the bead works wonders.
