Help for aging eyes

Does anyone else use an iris attachment on their glasses while at the range? I use a flip up clip-on Gehmann iris that I had to order out of Canada.

Without it, my sights are fuzzy and I can hardly make out the shape of the target behind them.

never seen, or even heard of one before now. i might have to try a makeshift version to see if it will help me. if it does, i will have to look into getting one. isnt life over 40 wonderful (52 y.o.)?

I've used the Merit version before, but the rubber sucker dried out a bit, so now it's a PITA to get it to stick. I resorted to taping it on. Generally worked well, though. I've been thinking of the clip-on Gehmann version as a replacement.

Without an aperture, I'm able to focus on the front sight, and the target's acceptably fuzzy. The aperture helps clear the target up a bit, but I don't think that was the main advantage for me, since the target really doesn't have to be clear. I started noticing that with standard shooting glasses, I'm no more accurate with longer sight radii, and I suspect that the aperture was helping me align the sights better by clearing up the rear sight a bit.

I bought it off eBay. Just type Gehmann iris into the eBay search field. They're ungodly expensive, like $80.

I used the suction-cup one from Merit for a while before this. It worked okay but was a total pain in the ass to position correctly. I lost it somewhere on the range.

Did any of you watch the olympic pistol competition? A bunch of the guys were wearing irises methinks. They looked like a bunch on cyborgs.
