So I got my dream gun a few weeks ago (M1 Garand) and of course took it straight to the range and shot a couple boxes. Anyway i shot 3 or 4 rounds and it worked great..but after that it wouldnt eject the old round. So after i fired each round i had to pull back and eject it and charge the next round in. I went home tore it down lubed everything up and cleaned the hell out of it. Any ideas!! thanks

I dont know much about M1's but just from listening to other people I know alittle. If the gun isnt cycling its more than likely the operating rod or gas system. Someone like Kraigwy will be along and he will be able to tell you whats up, with alittle more information need from you Im sure.

where and what did you lube with? Could be a simple act of too much lube! Could be your gas plug isn't tight. What type oif ammo are you using? Will it eject by hand? If so, I'd check your gas plug first. It still could be too much lube. You may want to brush your chamber with a chamber brush also. I use bearing grease and very very little of it......no oil at all on my Garands. Little dabs and rubbed out very thin on the channels where the bolt rides and see how that works. It doesn't take too much to be TOO MUCH~!

Tighten up your gas plug. Don't lube the gas cylinder.

This is of course assuming you are not firing reloads. If you are using reloads chances are your case shoulder hasn't been set back to specs. This will defiantly cause failures to eject (among other things). You can tell real easy buy putting the gun on safe, pointing it in a safe direction and chambering a round. Make sure the gun is in battery, then try to eject the case. Does it eject easily??

It would help to know what ammo you are using. It really takes a lot to get a M1 not to work.

If after the above is tried, and you still have problems, PM me and we'll work through it and get it going for you.

If its a CMP garand, it was tested for safety and function. I have two and after they arrived I took them apart and cleaned and lubed everything (grease, not oil). Read the manual and look online for additional details on how they work and what needs to be maintained, and how to troubleshoot them. My two CMP garands work fine, but with a occasional stoppage that easily cleared. I am using CMP surplus Greek ammo in the clips without any problems. Also, when you shoot it be sure your non trigger hand is not squeezing against the op rod on the stock. That's easy to do. As said earlier, the gas plus on mine needs to be tightened up regularly.

The Swiss general confidently replied, "I can mobilize one million men in twenty-four hours."
The German asked, "What would happen if I marched five million men in here tomorrow?"
The Swiss replied, "Each of my men will fire five shots and go home."

Off topic:

I love your signature line.

and of course took it straight to the range and shot a couple boxes.

Boxes. That tells me you're using commercial ammo, as the surplus stuff usually comes in clips.

Don't use commercial ammo in a Garand without an adjustable gas plug.
