Help disassembling a High Standard Durango

Savage Armed

I looked up the schematic on Numrich. I took the trigger guard pin and and the hammer pivot screw out and i tried to pull the grip out of the frame but the hammer wont let it and the cylinder stop spring is binding if I try to pull it straight down. Looks like if I pulled the hammer out it would let the grip pull out of the frame, but the hammer still has the spring against it. I thought about pulling the hammer pawl off and maybe that would let the hammer go foward enough to remove the hammer spring and guide so I could remove the hammer without it being under tension. Anybody got any advice. Im normally not so hesitant to take something apart but I dont want to tear anything up I cant replace because my grandpa gave me this pistol, but I want to take it apart and clean it because it looks like my grandpa didnt believe in gun oil.

After looking at a couple of sources, it appears that the grip section, with all the trigger components is supposed to separate whole from the frame and cylinder, with either two pins removed from the frame or just the trigger pin.
There was a suggestion to completely remove the grips, as they can hang up the process.
And the hammer had to be either down in the fired position or maybe in the half cock one to make sure the cylinder lock cleared the frame.
It was hard to tell from the miserable instructions.
Hope this little bit helps some.

I have a JC Higgins 88 revolver which is made by High Standard and is nearly identical. Look on U tube for disassembly videos, possibly High Standard Sentinal as well. I got mine all apart and back together perfectly but I do not have that video or the book I used with me because I am traveling for a few days. I think Gun digest assemby and disassembly for revolvers has a section on this model and it helps a great deal. Try this book if all else fails because it took me through it nicely...http://www.gundigeststore.com/gun-d...r:adType=pla&gclid=CJfMyMGezb0CFQ2hOgodIzUAxg
