Help, Bent Barrels!!

:( Help. While cleaning the barrels of my Beretta over/under yesterday, the barrell slid down my work bench and landed on the muzzel end of the barrels and bent them to the point that the choke tubes wont go back in. Is there any hope of a Gunsmith fixing this problem? Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks in advance.

The barrels will have to be expanded back to original. There are tools to do this, and you can get them from Brownells. I would not do it myself, I would send it off to a VERY knowledgeable gunsmith. Since the damage is out on the end of the barrels the quality of the repair is extremely important, or the point of impact could be drastically changed. If dented further in on the barrels repairs are not nearly as critical. Send it off to one of the top smiths.

Dent barrel remover usually works. Not worth the investment if it's a one time deal and better to let a smith who can fix and true it handle the job. Worse case scenario is shortening the bbl and recutting for the choke.

STRAKA, if the damaged areas cannot be saved you may not be able to get the barrels rethreaded for Beretta tubes. Beretta tubes are quite a bit larger in diameter than standard Win or Rem choke and the muzzles are 'bulged' slightly on these guns to account for it. If they have to be cut back and redone you'll probably end up with Tru-choke or Thinwall. But I would imagine that a good smith could repair them without cutting. George

Good luck, I bet that wadded your panties . . . I know I would not have been happy if it was one of mine. Let us know how it turns out.

Thank-you

Thanks to everyone! Today I spoke with Beretta and at this point I feel my best bet is to have them look at it. What a bummer, I feel like I am loosing a Buddy, I don't know what I will do at the club on Wednesday without it, I know I will drop a few on my scores for sure. Will keep everyone posted on the outcome. Thanks again-Chris
