Hello, I'm not exactly new to the forums, I've been lurking for some time now. I like a lot of what I've seen on here, other things not quiet so much. But what can you do, right? I'm retired military. I won't say what I did because when I do people either think I'm lying or just plain bragging. Either way, it's hard to be taken serious. I will say I have been involved in joint operations with other countries and have seen a lot of shots fired in anger. Both outgoing and incoming. My early experiences led me to have a general distrust for handguns in general, prefering the rifle for most situations. But I learned to love the handgun after a tour in some South American countries where it wasn't always prudent to go armed with a rifle because it tended to draw attention when it wasn't wanted. I found the handgun to be vastly superior to bare hands or blades and a lot more comforting. That being said, I hate hardball ammunition in any caliber. Hollowpoints just work so much better. Obviously holowpoints weren't always an option, but when they were I was always happier. I'm also a huge fan of the .45 acp, having personally seen its effectiveness on hostile people. Not that I have anything against the 9mm. With a good hp round it can hold its own very well. The .45 just seemed to anchor bad guys a bit quicker. But when I was in Western Europe on an exchange with an anti-terrorist group that saw a bit of action and saw what the .357 magnum 125 gr hollowpoint could do I was amazed. I've read acounts of police departments calling this round the lightning bolt round and I can see why. I saw four armed men on four different occasions hit with this round and none of them put up any kind of a fight afterwards. You can read what you want and believe what you will, but I'll trust my own eyes. Gel testing can be useful in seeing what a round may do in flesh, but like I heard someone say once, I've never been attacked by a block of ballistics gel. My personal carry weapons are pretty simple. A Colt Government model and an Officers frame with a Commander upper, both of wich have been lightly worked on. A Glock 21 and a Glock 30 for when I want a little more firepower and also because they are extremely easy to work on if needed. I also carry a pair of Ruger SP101's with 3inch barrels from time to time. And a beautiful Browning Hi Power that was given to me by a British friend that's, sadly, no longer with us. They said it was a training exercise that went bad. And regardless of what I have seen posted elsewhere in these forums, I believe no one should ever leave the house with just the ammo that's in their weapon. You might believe with all your heart that you are in a good, safe, neighborhood. But bad things can happen in the least likely of places. Especially these days. Believe me, I've seen it. And you might just find yourself in need of more than those 5 rounds in your S&W snubbie to get you out of trouble you didn't ask for. I also don't believe in taking less than two guns with me either. I'm no Rambo or mall ninja, I've just seen some weapons that checked out fine before a job give up the ghost at the worst possible moment. It was some friends in Latin America that taught me the value of a second gun. It's also a lot quicker than reloading if it comes to that. In all my weapons I use hollowpoints exclusively for defense. Just a little history as my way of saying hello and to let those interested (Although, why anyone would be is a mystery to me) know where I stand on things up front. Thank you.
