Heckler & Koch HK416

excellent :D so what is your opinion on this rifle , I am looking at it and some of colt's similar rifles , what do you think I should go for ?

I would rather spend my money on a Colt 6920 and accessories, personally. While I think the HK is a fine rifle, it's too heavy for my tastes. I like many of the features, but I don't think they're worth the extra money. A Colt 6920 can be had for $1000 or less right now, NIB. That's substantially less money and honestly, the Colt will be plenty reliable and accurate.

Hi sturm,

Please don't forget that a '6920' isn't specific enough... there is now a choice between the SP 6920 and the LE 6920.

The LE and SP versions of the 6920 (and the 6940 for that matter) are exactly the same with the exception of the roll marks. Brent, a Colt representative, confirmed it over on the Colt forum:

Sporter rifles are exactly the same as the LE guns, flash hiders and bayonet lugs and all. There are no different specs from LE guns to Commercial guns.
Brent

The Sporter versions typically run around $100 cheaper as well.

Yup, they're the same rifle. But Colt did recently drop the LE version from production and released a special edition... for whatever it's worth. But in the end a 6920 is a 6920. It's a good rifle.

Well, the LE versions have not necessarily been dropped from production. They will still be manufactured by Colt Defense and sold to law enforcement and military organizations. They are merely taking the LE marked versions off the civilian market and replacing them with their corresponding "Sporter" roll marked brethren.

Personally, I believe I will be picking up a new Colt SP6940 sometime between now and the end of the year. The 6920 is a nice rifle, but I don't care for carry handles and prefer a quad rail. You can add a drop in quad rail and a flip up rear sight to a 6920, but by the time you do the price is the same if not more than a 6940. I'm not worried about barrel swaps or changing between a dozen different forearms, so I've decided to go with the 6940 and get everything I want right out of the box.
