Heavy barrel for a 22 bolt action?

I'm in the market for a cz 452 and the heavy barrel model isn't available with sights. its gonna be a range gun, eventually a small game gun as well. should I care about not having a heavy barrel in a .22 is it to small to heat up anyway even at the range?

Heavy barrel for .22 rim fire

The heavy barrel is perfectly ok for any intended use. Forget about iron sights, cause you are going to scope it anyway.

With a bolt action .22 it's very difficult to shoot fast enough to get the barrel to heat up.

For your shooting a lighter barrel will do fine.
The advantage of the heavy barrel in .22 is to add weight forward.

If you want a heavy barrel, most any decent gunsmith can install iron sights.
The 452 has a grooved receiver and Williams and probably Lyman make receiver sights to fit grooved receivers.
All you'd have to do is have the barrel drilled and tapped for a front sight.

Hey thanks Faris. Not sure if I wanna pay the 100$ our whatever to put sights on.i'm getting the full stock model with wood to the front so hopefully that makes the barrel a bit more stable

I have 3 CZs (452 Trainer, 452 American, and 453 Varmint).
Would the thicker barrel be more accurate. Do not know but my groups are more consistent with the heavy barrel. Maybe the barrel or it could the overall weight of the rifle.
Whichever CZ you get, you most likely will be happy.
I use to have a scope on my Trainer with high see-thru mounts -- it worked but was not comfortable to use. On this, I would go with either scoped or irons but not a combo.
Check out AS adjustable sear if you find the stock trigger not to your liking. my 452s have them.

I think a heavy barrel on a bolt action .22lr is a waste. You could sit there with a few magazines and shoot the crap out of it and get the barrel hot but I think it would take alot of shooting. Who does that? I dont think a .22 needs a heavy barrel.

Heavier barrels don't shoot any more accurately, unless the chamber is tighter and the bore is better. However, a heavier barrel tends to make PEOPLE shoot better, due to the extra weight forward.

My 455 is quite whippy and it would be nice to have a bit more weight forward for easier offhand shooting, but the rifle would be heavier to carry around and I bought it to be a walkabout rifle.

That said, weights could be added to a light barrel a bunch of ways.
