Just was overcome by temptation on e-bay, bought a heat seeking tracker, handheld with audio speakers, a bushnell looking import product, gt2000 or something like that. Paid about $50.00 for it, supposedly it hasn't been used.

Just wondering if anyone has or has experience on these wounded deer tracking products or did i just waste $50.00? Thanks ya'll J.R.

The range is rather limited, but I can see where it would be useful if you're tracking a wounded animal in thick cover.

A buddy of mine shot a buck. The buck ran, and was tracked to where it had jumped from a ten-foot rise. Track, track, track, no luck, half an hour of frustration. He then happened to see a spot of white right in the middle of a large, thick cedar bush. Sure enough, the buck had fallen dead right in the middle of it, practically invisible. A heat-seeker probably would have saved a bunch of frustration.

Just curious, does it have a range??? I have used thermal devices in the military, but you won't find them on ebay.

The range is supposedly about 30 feet in thick stuff, 50+ in a field and 100 under "optimal conditions"

The guy i got it from said he could point it at his dog across the yard and it would go off. So i guess they do work to some extent but like mentioned, best in thick stuff.

My wife lost one"maybe a hit" in some very thick stuff and a heat seeker that worked would have ruled out the clumps of briars i waded through for hours. We knocked one down in a wheatfield last year that we luckily stumbled across, right where she should have been, bet we walked by her 20 times. A heatseeker would have been nice. If they work. I'll know soon.

I got 3 of them actually from the same seller. $50.00 per new one and $20 for one that doesn't work right. I was going to give the new ones away to friends as late Christmas presents and send the broken one back to be fixed for myself. Don't want to give them junk though so i was just wondering if anyones tried one successfully...Thanks ya'll J.R.

Well, that is pretty cool. I won't tell you how far the ones' I used in the military were. They were really cool. Will look into that one.

Sure would be nice for those creepy hog hunts in low light, overhanging tree conditions. Let me tell you, if you can only see 6 feet, and cant see the ground, hog hunting can get pretty creepy.

I have used a couple different versions of these units and find it's all in how well it's made when it comes to how well it picks out what I am looking for. All of these pick up any heat source, on a brite sunny day it will pick out every item the sun shines on so if I use mine now I wait until night or I use on a day the sun is not shining hot spots so I don't waste my time on tons of hot spots. One test you can do is in your home find your dog or wife or child when you dont know where they are but watch out for any hot spot which you will find & learn for doing this.

Only junk for the people that don't understand how to use like it should be used or not enough patients to learn how it should be used.

still junk

You can sit it for the lowest sensitivity on a cold day and a good size tree will set it off. (cause it soaked up the heat of the sun all day)

Still junk.

I know of 7 people that have owned them, and all of them sold them or tried to give them away.

Suit yourself nobody is twisting your arm, I know how and when to use and they work fine for us only because we understand how to use them so we will be happy with ours.

Loook be civil.

No body is twisting my arm

I know how to use it and how they work. I am no dummy. You like yours ok.

Don't set there and use a I am smarter than you attitude, or insinuate I'm stupid.

I have not met anybody that like them or could get them to work as advertised.

He wanted to know of anybody that had experience with them, and if he wasted his money. He asked for an opinion and I gave it.

Steve, I do not feel or try to express that I am smarter then you or anyone else but when you keep saying junk it's simply not true so I would guess you used junk instead of one of the better models that I use. And no I did not say or call you anything else.
