The American people should not have to endure another school shooting, an assault weapon massacre of innocent people, or the sad spectacle of a six-year-old child shooting a classmate before the leadership of the Congress does what is right and passes sensible gun safety legislation.
The time for stalling is over. There are several balanced and fair gun safety proposals now pending in the Congress that merit immediate action. All of them build on the successful Brady Act handgun waiting restrictions and Assault Weapons Ban that Congress enacted seven years ago.
These measures are particularly important for the nation's children, who die from firearms at a rate that is 12 times higher than all other industrialized nations.
Congress should immediately enact legislation:
• to end unregulated sales of firearms at gun shows. An estimated 2,000 to 5,000 gun shows take place each year and they provide a gaping loophole from federal firearms' laws;
• to ban the import of large ammunition clips used for assault weapons;
• to restrict unlicensed persons from purchasing more than one hangun per month, thus limiting interstate gun running where people will purchase cases of cheap handguns to sell them out of the trunk of their car on urban street corners.
• to require the Secretary of the Treasury to develop new safety standards for firearms to avoid the unintentional discharge of the weapon, and;
• to mandate trigger locks on firearms and restrict the sale of assault weapons to persons under 18 years old.
It has been a year since the nation witnessed the terrible shooting in Columbine, and yet there has been little action on a Juvenile Justice Bill that contains some of these important reforms, especially tightening lax standards for gun shows sales. Getting this bill passed by the Congress and signed by the President must be one of the first orders of business this summer.
I was in Congress seven years ago when we enacted the Brady Act waiting restrictions on firearms.Many opponents of the bill insisted those restrictions would not work. Today, more than 500,000 felons, fugitives and domestic abusers have been stopped cold from purchasing firearms. That's a victory for common sense, rational public policy, and the American people.
All of us can aid in the fight against gun voilence. We should ensure that our children do not play in homes where firearms are left unlocked and loaded. And we must demand that those convicted of the use of a gun in a crime will be swiftly punished.

It's nice to know that the Gun-Grabbers like Moran are using our tax dollars to produce propaganda like this. He probably mailed over 200,000 of these anti-American flyers. The cost to the taxpayers is likely in the millions. The sad part is....this guy's district is over-populated with liberal/socialist federal government drones and yuppie clintonista soccer moms, so he will likely keep his seat in Congress for as long as he desires."

He appears to be pretty unsavory, on top of his anti-gun stance. GOA rates him as an F-.
