Heads up to Surplus Beretta 92s owners!

I was lucky enough to pick up one of the surplus 92s which were brought into the country late last year and year this year. It took me a while but I finally got my hands on a D spring and installed it today.

While installing the D spring I had to take out small roll pin in the heel mag release in order to install the new spring. When I took the mag release out and inspected the button I found a small amount of surface rust/pitting. It was not apparent when it is installed in the gun but once it was out I caould see it clearly.

I would also recommend that everyone who got one of these take the mag release button out and inspect it. My gun was to my eyes unissued but there is a little bit of storage rust/pitting on the mag release button on the part which is recesses into the frame. A few quick swipes with bronze wool took it right off without harming what remains of the bluing. I oiled it up and put it back in. You will need a small roll pin punch to drive out the pin but IMHO it is worth doing. I was also able to reuse the roll pin it came out undamaged.

Now back to the D spring and its results. According to my digital trigger pull scale the DA is over 12lbs+, scale only goes to 12, and the SA is about 5.3 on a avg of 5 pulls when I originally tested it with my Lyman Digital trigger pull gauge.

The double action now is about 9.6 lbs and the SA is right around 5lbs. It does not seem to have effected the SA much but the DA is not only lighter but feels smoother. I often believe that smoother triggers give you the perception of a lighter trigger and lighter triggers give you the perception of a smoother trigger.

I did not alter any other parts so I believe the lighter trigger pull by about 3lbs is tricking my brain into thinking it is smoother.

All in all a nice upgrade for a few bucks and about 20 minutes of my time.
