Primary elections are Tuesday--Gun owners must vote

EVERY gun owner needs to turn out on Tuesday the 8th and vote in the primary.

MCRGO has surveyed the candidates for State House and we’ve compiled a list of the ones we’re endorsing in the primary elections.

If you value gun rights over everything else, please put aside any partisan leanings and support these people in the primaries, both with your votes, and also with volunteer time and money if you can.

NOTE: These are only the districts where there is an actual PRIMARY election taking place on August 8th. There are many great pro-gun candidates and incumbents who are not listed here. That is because they are not opposed in a primary election. We will have the complete listing posted after the primary. Also there are primaries where we haven’t endorsed anyone. That is usually because we received no survey returns from the candidates or the survey forms that we did receive were unsatisfactory. If you don’t see YOUR local candidates listed, those are the possible reasons. In other areas, we’ve endorsed more than one because the candidates have returned equally impressive surveys or otherwise earned our recognition.

17th District:
Dual endorsement. Jim Barker and Shirley Powser. Both are Democratic candidates.
* 17th District candidate Ken Warfield contacted us late, but his survey answers were also excellent.

18th District:
Glen Anderson. Democratic candidate.

19th District:
Laura Toy. Incumbent Republican.

20th District:
Dual endorsement. Teresa Folino and David McDonald. Both are Republican candidates.

Additionally, we’re supporting candidates for prosecutor and sheriff this year.

Montcalm County Prosecutor: Candidate Tom Ginster
Osceola County Prosecutor: Incumbent James Talaske

For Sheriff:

Gladwin Co. Sheriff: Candidate Annette Howe
Ogemaw Co. Sheriff: Candidate Howie Hanft.

Macomb Co. Sheriff: Candidate Steve Thomas

So come on, gun owners--get out there and support these candidates in the primaries...No excuses. If you don't live in their districts, you probably know someone who does. Get on the phone and make sure THEY vote. If you don't vote for or otherwise support these people, you've no one but yourself to blame if we lose any more gun rights next year.

May I suggest for Omegaw Co. Prosecutor: Fred McKinnen Incumbent - Democrat but don't hold that against him. Fred is pro RKBA, likes to shoot, loves full auto arms and has made Omegaw Co a shall issue county.

(I may have mispelled his last name however. :( )

Primary election results

17th District. Former garden City Mayor Jim Plakas beat MCRGO's endoorsed candiates and will go on to be the next state rep. from Wayne.

18th District. MCRGO-endorsed Glenn Anderson won his primary.

19th District. Incumbent Laura Toy--a supporter of gun rights, beat her GOP challenger.

20th District. MCRGO-endorsed Teresa Folino won the GOP primary with MCRGO support behind her. She'll represent gun owners well in January.

32nd District. pro-gun incumbent Alan Sanborn held his seat by an incredibly large margin.

47th District. MCRGO-endorsed John Muller (An MCRGO member) won the primary, but now has to go against anti-gun incumbent Rose Bogardus in November.

58th District. In Branch and Hillsdale counties, GOP incumbent Steve Vear, a friend of MCRGO, defeated two GOP challengers and held his seat.

61st District. MCRGO's Ray Wilson was defeated by Tom George. Wilson was a fantastic pro-gunner but George will replace Chuck Perricone in the house in January.

66th District. MCRGO went for the long shot and backed Steve Williams due to his strong position on gun-rights and his well-run campaign against incumbent Judy Scranton. And Williams came very close. But close isn't good enough. We'll be behind him again next election for certain though.

74th District. Pro-gun incumbent Jim Koetje held his seat against his challenger.

84th District. Our pick, Joe Hembling, was beaten by Tom Meyer.

85th District. Incumbent pro-gunner Larry Julian totally devastated his chhallenger.

86th District. Valde Garcia beat his challenger, but faces Million Mom Marcher Teresa Patterson in November.

87th District. MCRGO's candidate, Jim Bailey, lost to Gary Newell.

89th District. Barb VanderVeen, endorsed and supported by MCRGO, won the GOP primary and will be the next state representative in that heavy GOP district.

93rd District. Pro-gun incumbent and friend of MCRGO Larry DeVuyst defeated his challenger.

95th District: Ed Mason was defeated in his bid for the Democratic nomination, despite MCRGO's financial support.

109th District. MCRGO-backed Gus Rydholm won the GOP primary. MCRGO-backed Deborah Pellow was defeated in the Democratic primary.

110th District. This is one where we win twice. In the GOP primary, our pick Greg Nominelli won handily. In the Democratic primary, our pick, Rich Brown, blew challenger Bob Black away with better than a 2-1 margin. It's noteworthy that Black had embarked on a very childish harrassment campaign against MCRGO and our activists for not endorsing him. He also led people to believe that he had obtained the NRA endorsement in two previous campaigns when in fact he had not.

In other important races:

In Montcalm County, incumbent prosecutor Andrea Krause beat out MCRGO's Tom Ginster in a race for that office.

In the Eaton County Sheriff's race MCRGO member Rick Jones defeated incumbent Sheriff Pat Hutting in a very close race.

Hutting ran ads criticizing Rick's pro RKBA position. Even though Hutting ran as a Republican he was supported by many traditional Democratic organizations
and people including the UAW. Hutting outspent Jones considerably and even formed am "Citizens Committee against gun violence" to inform the public that Rick and NRA members in general are a threat to our children.

MCRGO Chapter chairman Jerry Jennings deserves a large credit for Rick Jones victory. Jerry organized phone banks and helped with special mailings for
Rick.

In Macomb County, MCRGO-endorsed Steve Thomas won the Republican nomination and he'll go against Mark Hackel in November.

Hey, we got Steve Thomas through the primary for Macomb County, MI, Sheriff. One more step to go...Pro-rights, excellent adiministator and a seasoned LEO. He needs all of our help.
