HBAR vs LW barrels on AR's

OKay, I've got several HBARs and I'd like to make them LW barrels. I know how to build AR's and can swap them out and put in other barrels but would it be easier and cheaper to just have the HBAR's turned down to a lighter profile?

Anyone know of someone who does this and how much they charge?

I think it may be hard to find a machinist who would turn down a barrel for less than the $150-200 it would cost to buy a decent one.

Unless you have your own lathe I would say it's definatly cheaper to buy a new one and install it.

I'd also worry about doing it right... not that it's rocket science but keeping things square, stable and not taking too much does require some experiance and attention to detail.

Keep in mind as well that unless you ahve stainless barrels you would have to factor in some re finishing of some sort that even if you did home sprayed gun coat would still be 25 bucks or more for a can of the stuff.
