Hawthorne 20 gauge

I own a bolt action shotgun with the name of Hawthorne M149. It has no serial number and i can't find a website for Hawthorne or information on the gun. Any suggestions?

It sounds like an old Montgomery Ward gun made by Stevens or Mossberg.

I'd go with a Mossberg guess myself. I have one in 16ga. It's a good shooter.

I'll try to get a picture this evening. My main wonder was why it has no serial number, is it just because it's older?

Yup. Serial numbers weren't required until the 1960s. The majority of my older long guns don't have 'em.

Nice looking. Yeah, I'll say thats a Mossberg. It looks just like mine but mine has a Poly Choke on the end.

Don't use that shotguhn for hunting. It would be too dangerous.

How is it too dangerous for hunting?

Because its a 20 gauge. If you attempt to shoot something, even a bird, the lack of power will cause the pellets to ricochet off the animal. The pellets could then hit any innocent bystanders.

Ya it's just something i shoot. Don't think I would use it for hunting though.
