Hawk...870 Clone

About 10 years ago, I wanted a 20" barrel for my 870 Express. A local gun shop sold me this Hawk 870 clone for $160 brand new. It's 20", cylinder bored, with extended magazine and 3" chamber. Synthetic stocks. This has been a very tough knock-around gun. No stoppages or feeding problems-ever. The only problem has been the barrel retaining nut will work loose after about 50 rounds. It lacks the detent found on real 870's. A small dot of blue loctite fixed this nicely. Anyone else have one? It's the only one in these parts, and the only one I've ever seen. Best "cheap" shotgun ever for me! Please share any experiences you have had. Thanks, Andy.

These "clones" of the Remington 870 were all made by Norinco in China.

They were imported and sold here under a number of names, including Interstate Arms, Hawk, Norinco 981, and others.

General consensus on these 870 copies is, their not up to Remington standards of fit and finish, but do make excellent truck or knock-around guns.

These are generally of better quality than the Norinco copies of the Ithaca Model 37.

The 870 copies seem to stand up to use pretty well, and always go "Boom", which is about all you could ask for in a cheap gun.

Dfaris, never gave Norinco a thought. It figures, their stuff may be lacking in fit and finish, but usually is functional. Thanks, Andy

The metallurgy is on the soft side on these knockoffs and they rust real easy as has been my experience. They shoot well though and are ok for a price point copy.I have a real deal Remington 870 and it is heaven compared to anything else, copies or otherwise!!! :)
