Having a problem uploading photos

I Have a problem uploading photos. Never had a problem before but lately have. When I try to attach files I try to upload and image and it begins the upload process and says “uploading files – please wait”. It takes way to long then the page switches to “Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage.”

Thanks for trying to help. It is something on my end. I even tried to open an image hosting site and I can not upload to it either. I tried various helps on Microssofts's site but none worked. It is strange that it only started happening about a week ago and I have not installed anything new on the computer.

It gets stranger.

Since I can not upload here anymore. I tired to copy a jpg to my ftp. I thought that way I could link to that file. I went to my ftp created a folder TFL and then tried to copy that jpg into it. I got an error saying “An error occurred copying a file to the FTP server: Make sure you have permission to put files on the server. Operation timed out.”

Do you have an outgoing firewall? Have you added or changed anything to or in your system recently, no matter how innocuous you might think it is? Can you email jpg's (i.e., does your emailer also detect a problem)?

Yes Mal we have a firewall but it has never caused problems before. I tired a system restore and that did not work. I can send jpg's in emails fine. It seems when I am up loading over the internet that is when the problem begins. I can load JPG’s onto the office FTP but not my own. I am going to write my provider and see what they say.

I talked to a guy in the office that knows more than me about our technical situation. He is not sure what is going on and said the Firewall we have should not prevent me uploading photo.

I would agree, generally firewalls prevent incoming junk. That's why I was wondering if you had an outgoing firewall. They're more rare, but do exist in secure locations. The email test was to see if all outgoing streams were being checked.

If you want to try an experiment, you can email a pic to me that isn't making out the door normally. I'll see if I can upload it to photobucket. That would eliminate the pix themselves from the mystery.

Thanks Mal, I will send a jpg for you to try. I contacted my provider my email and have not heard back. I thought system restore would have fixed it.

I tried to upload the pic to photobucket. It would start the process, but never got past 0% uploaded. I'm very sure it's a photobucket problem though because I tried a different pic and it wouldn't upload either.

An odd thing about the upload to photobucket occured. When I browsed for the file, the file name confused the browse function. It got the right file but renamed it to "W.jpg" on photobucket. I renamed the file on my computer to "frozen_puddle_2008_bw.jpg" and it then accepted the name correctly. It still wouldn't upload though.

Next I tried to attach it here and it worked just fine as you can see. So my conclusion is that it's not the file, but you might want to rename it, or any other file that wasn't working. My hunch is that the '&' included in the filename was the catcher.

Thanks for all you help Mal. :)I uploaded this MAS photo. What I did was go into Corel Photo-Paint and then saved the image as ‘web optimized’ then I uploaded it and it worked fine. I never had a problem like this with any of my photos I uploaded before until recently.

I am going to try my FTP and see if I can upload it the same image to it.

Thanks again for the help.

Steve
