Have you tried SP or JHP rounds in your M1 Carbine?

I just picked up a small quantity or Remington and Federal SP and HSP for my M1 Carbine in .30 Carbine. Have any of you used or tested these or similar rounds? How reliably have they fed and functioned? Anybody shoot any game with these or similar rounds?

I've had excellent luck with the SP rounds in both of my carbines, but I loaded some 110gr HP rounds, and they had feeding difficulties. It was too few to know if I could have worked on them to get a reliable load, I just stuck to the SP rounds.

Carbines often digest the round-nosed soft points well, including Winchester's HSP. I've even had luck with handloads using Speer's 110 grain HP bullet, but I'm sure not all M1 Carbines feed them reliably.

Your best bet is to test out various loads in the particular carbine in question.

While I've shot both HPs and JSPs in it, I've never used it on game. However my uncle did drop an 8 point back in 72 using JSPs, so they will work.

Have fun, the M-1 is one the best "Fun" guns around.

One of my co-workers dropped two does this year with 110 grain SPs. Not sure of the brand, but both shots worked well - complete penetration and meat for the freezer. Exit wounds were approx. quarter sized - good expansion at sub 75 yards.

I think range is the key with something the size of the .30 carbine. Safe bet, avoid anything over 100 yds, with 75 being my personal limit.

Federals are OK

I shot some Federal 110 SP's yesterday to see how they worked in my Standard Products M-1.

They cycled well, they were accurate, and I wish I had a case or two more of them.
