When a particular gun goes in stock, it goes in stock for almost all the online gun shops?

example
recently I saw a S&W 510 and 509 9mm go in stock. and its not just on buds, but j&g, aimsurplus, centerfiresystems, etc

whats the deal?

I Think,,,

it's because they on-line gun stores rarely have stock,,,
They all get from the same firearm distributors,,,
Then they order it in and send it to you.

They announce availability when the distributor has it in stock.

At least thats what my gun store guy told me,,,
I noticed because I asked him to order me a pistol,,,
When he couldn't get one I hit my 2nd, 3rd, and 4th string dealer.

No one could get me one,,,
Two months later I got phone calls from them,,,
All within a week of each other saying they could get one now.

Who knows,,,
Maybe true, maybe not,,,
I just repeat the info told to me.

Maybe related?

I was in my local toy store recently, and the owner (Gary) was on the phone attempting to find some S&W 686's. There was a list of S&W firearms he was trying to find, but all he could find were J-frames.

One distributor told him that S&W was focusing on making J-frames right now, and not much else was available.

IOW, when in short supply, they make what is in the highest demand.

Could be that when one place gets a particular firearm, it's because that's what one of the companies just released a bunch of. That being so, they all get the same thing because that's what's available.

Can't say for sure, but it seems probable

It has to do with production scheduling in a manufacturing environment....a product is slated to be made for a certain length of time to produce a certain quantity based on past sales history and future sales production. Most companies will produce a certain model maybe once or twice a year as retooling the line is downtime and expensive. Then the major jobbers get their deliveries which then go the selected wholesalers to the distributors to the retailers

There are more than one distributor

I vent to my local GS and they could not get me a G19.
"They all out"
Well than I called a local ffl holder who does not have a shop to check his distributor.
His response was "what color you want?"
I have him order a OD G19, for $120 less than the GS would sell it.
It's worth while to shop around.:)

There are a couple of big wholesalers who handle the lion's share of the business.

They collect orders, order the number they need from the manufacturer, and when the manufacturer sends them the guns, the wholesaler sends them out.

In essence, all of the dealers get their guns at roughly the same time.
