... found a pistol or revolver you forgot you had? Like the gun in the bottom box that never seemed to get looked in?
Without exactly admitting to stupidity or a poor memory on my part, this has happened to me twice. The first time, I opened a box and, to my wonderment, found a 3-inch S&W Model 640. I'd bought this gun, locked it away, forgotten about it, and there it was! Kind of like Christmas. Nice gun, too.
Then the same thing happened yesterday. I opened a box and rediscovered my 4-inch 586 that I last fired years ago and then forgot about. I'm sure I must have oiled it down during that time, but it hadn't registered in my mind. What a sweet gun! Great balance and a smooth, light action right out of the box. (BTW, I have a hypothesis that S&W used to pay particular attention to the smoothness of the actions on its L-frames, so they could stand reasonable comparison with the Python competition.)
Christmas in September. Too bad I don't have enough guns or a poor enough memory for it to happen again. Or so I think.
