Have you ever opened your gun safe and ...

... found a pistol or revolver you forgot you had? Like the gun in the bottom box that never seemed to get looked in?

Without exactly admitting to stupidity or a poor memory on my part, this has happened to me twice. The first time, I opened a box and, to my wonderment, found a 3-inch S&W Model 640. I'd bought this gun, locked it away, forgotten about it, and there it was! Kind of like Christmas. Nice gun, too.

Then the same thing happened yesterday. I opened a box and rediscovered my 4-inch 586 that I last fired years ago and then forgot about. I'm sure I must have oiled it down during that time, but it hadn't registered in my mind. What a sweet gun! Great balance and a smooth, light action right out of the box. (BTW, I have a hypothesis that S&W used to pay particular attention to the smoothness of the actions on its L-frames, so they could stand reasonable comparison with the Python competition.)

Christmas in September. Too bad I don't have enough guns or a poor enough memory for it to happen again. Or so I think. :)

...and that is the beauty of 'oldtimers disease"!! Pretty soon, you will start to meet the nicest people in your home, day after day, although you won't be sure who they are. For me, my only symptoms are not being able to find my keys unless they are stapled to my head. Pretty soon, I am told, I won't be able to find my car and then...

ROTFLMAO
Gopher that one hurt. I'm going to nominate you for TFL comedian.

Yes, Jimmy, I have done this a few times myself. In fact I no longer try to remember what or how many guns I have. Some would say that when this happens it means we have too many guns. We know that cannot be right since all of us here know that one can never have too many guns.

Sir, your remarks are repulsive to me, and I disagree with your viewpoints. But I will defend to my death your God given right to express them.

Does catchin your beard in the seatbelt latch count?

Few years ago, or yestidy or sumpin, I was cleanin up the place and found enough parts to put together a complete 1911. Kinda mismatched all over but it was a shooter.

Sam...everything has to be somewhere, just not where me lookin.

Everything is found in the last place you look. As I was saying to my wife (what's her name) just the other day... Oops, forgot.

Just once and I wish it had remained in never-never land. (Sterling .22 auto) Also lost one too..... A few years ago I loaned a 3" Charter Arms Undercover to a cousin and kind of forgot about it. I asked him about it a year or two later and he's quite sure he returned it..... hmmm. I'm pretty sure he never did but he's pretty sure he did, so now what? I think it probably ended up under a seat or in a glovebox and sold with a vehicle but... should it be reported stolen? Or should it just be considered a write-off? (the cousin is honest as the day is long and he most definitely did not "steal" it)

Don't let these guys get to ya Jimmy. I've forgotten about every S&W I ever had too. It was really easy!!! :D

This is too funny. I'm getting scared cuz i am actually starting to like all you people that i have resented for so long. You take up much of my husbands time and he buys the things that you too love, GUNS! Ya know sitting here, in the peace of the morning, kid sleeping the rest at school, bills paid, and car to drive, I'm figuring things aren't so bad. Let him have his guns, He's swore this is the last one for the last 10 times, lol, I'm starting to think he don't really mean that...lol...but he does work 6 days a week and I am able to stay home with my children, Have a vice of my own, and that is all he does, He barely has 10 dollars in his pocket at one time, and hardly complains, so i guess, i can live with it as long as the kids and the dog are fed, and the mortgage is on time.

I know the whereabouts of every gun I own,I think ;)
Now if only I could remember where I parked the Sherman the other night

Well, this thread is the most fun I've had at TFL--and I've had some good times here, if I could only recall them. :)

Oscar--believe me, remembering that combination is work! I kinda practice remembering it. I say it to myself every now and then, or open and close the safe from time to time for no other reason, so as not to get rusty. The alternative would be to leave the safe open, but what if I accidentally bumped it shut? ;)

But I'm kidding, sorta. Actually, my memory is selective: better at recalling some things than others. Of course, the things that are the easiest to remember are the things I wish I could forget!

(OK, I'm signing off now--this is what my wife means when she tells me I'm talking myself in deeper and deeper. :D)

gunbuyerswife: you are a real gem!

Regarding the original subject:
I had this happen with a Sig226 with a bunch of full cap mags. Yikes, I forgot I had that one! And I am a young guy, so my memory should be good...?

How about this question:

You ever go buy a new handgun, and then come back to put it in your huge safe, and....egads!...it won't fit!?

Time to buy another safe!

And somehow, my wife is such a gem that she is helping me save up for another new gun safe. What a woman! (Of course, I just spent all my money on a new diamond ring for her, so it is give and take. Jewelry is her vice.) ;)

Almost, I dug out the pistol I bought for my wife many years ago ( she's a nurse who works nights). Anyway she didn't carry it too often and it got pushed aside for many years. I finally got it out and started shooting it in IDPA as a backup gun, pretty cool actually :)
