Have You Cleaned Your Tube Lately?

Hey guys,

Out of boredom, I cleaned my shotgun a few minutes ago, and this is what I found in the magazine tube!

Just thought I'd give you guys a little reminder to clean out the tube.

Good idea! I never knew how much crud could accumulate in there, but that's how it all came out.

Question... Does anyone know how to clean a barrel/chamber mop like the one pictured above?

What's a magazine tube?
Before they had plastic envelopes, some periodicals were rolled-up and mailed in paper tubes. Heavy mailing tubes were a way to prevent documents from being folded/creased.

I thought they came wrapped in plain brown sleeves to preserve privacy and keep the postal employees from stealing copies of Playboy.

Took my grandpas old shotgun apart a couple of years ago and was also amazed at the crud in the tube. I don't think it had been cleaned since he bough it new in about 1956.

It is an area that is often overlooked on shotguns with tube magazines. Everyone seems to want to concentrate on the barrel when the areas with moving parts such as the magazine and trigger assembly are far more important with regard to keeping the gun functioning properly. I clean the magazine tubes everytime I clean the shotguns.
