Have we really sunk this low?

It seems that young Adric White of Mobile, Alabama was shot by a CCW carrying citizen as White was committing an armed robbery.

White, who is out on bond from a previous armed robbery, was observed holding a gun to the head of the owner of a small business when the citizen with a legally concealed weapon told White not to move. When White turned to face the citizen with gun in hand, the citizen fired 5 times hitting White.

White is in the hospital and the parents are furious that their son was shot because the CCW carrier "was not involved in the activity". As they say on tape, the citizen had no right to shoot their son. He should have left the store and gotten into his car and left.

If you were in the same position, would you have reacted as the good citizen?

Has our society really sunk so low as to suggest that resistance to armed robbery by a third party is grounds for a lawsuit by the so called aggrieved party?

Here is a link to the incident.

Im a law abiding citizen in the presence of a felony armed robbery and thus in fear of my life?
of course good shoot.
I see someone else with a gun to their head yes I would protect them.

People claim this crap because they know they can find a lawyer to support them and a good chance that a judge or jury will rule in their favor and they will walk away with a pile of cash. Its all about greed, we are living in a time where examples like this story prove how low we are willing to go.

Got to LOVE the "Stand Your Ground" Law,,Would be tossed in Fl.

Another generation of "I do no wrong" :(

["White, who is out on bond from a previous armed robbery"]

Not Good^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Y/D

I think the armed citizen made a serious tactical error.

There was no need to tell the robber to "drop the gun." The threat was immediate, and there is no legal requirement to issue warnings. IMHO the well-intended citizen could have gotten the hostage shot. In such a situation, from a tactical perspective the best course of action is to just shoot, not talk.

They say that crap because their stupid. That customer that day is my hero and I bet the hero of the employee who had the gun to his head.

Unbelievable the guy is committing an armed robbery while holding a gun to the victims head and he is warned and then shot by a law abiding citizen and the family wants to sue...................This has to be a joke. What about the victims rights ? What about the victim suing the criminal ? And this happened while he was out on bail for previous armed robbery.
I guess they have the right to rob you at gun point and nothing is to happen to them.

Rescue shots....

Head shots or "rescue shots"(a term used for hostage events) can be stressful or difficult even for sworn LE officers.
Armed citizens or license holders in that position have a difficult decision.
Ideally, a CC license holder should keep the armed subject/hostage taker at bay for as long as possible until LE gets on scene.

Honestly, if the scene were to involve multiple subjects Id look for a "ave of escape" then flee or get out. It may not seem brave or heroic but if are drawn into a stand-off with a violent felon holding a gun to a hostage's head & there are other armed subjects around, they could flank your position or come up behind you.
It's a tough choice to make for any armed professional or license holder.

A few months ago, my metro area had a "take-down" armed robbery in a crowded supermarket. The subjects came in with handguns & M4 type rifles then stole the $$$ from the check out stands & the office safe.
Any actions from a single CC license holder or armed security guard would have been risky due to the large number of bystanders & employees.

Same ol crap "I din do nuffins" and "He was a good boy"

I will not speculate on what I would do because there is too much missing info.
But I am glad the CCW did what he did and the hostage walked away.

The situation turned out better than it could have. The thing that really chaps my hide is the attitude of the parents. What kind of world did they grow up in? This "kid" is going to get killed and sooner rather than later.

And this happened while he was out on bail for previous armed robbery.

Maybe the victim should sue the court system for allowing this perp out on bail to commit this act and cause the victim extreme mental anguish and suffering

Nothing surprises me anymore

Apparently the criminal class are now 'victims' of society and must be excused their crimes against their fellow man.

Nothing new here. Shoot someone and you are going to be challenged as to whether or not it was a good shoot. This has been happening for a very loooong time. I've known of situations just like this dating back to the 1930's where the family was not satisfied with the outcome. There are probably cases much older.

Often when the whole story gets told in court there are big differences in what gets reported. At times the shooters actions may not always be as clear as first reported.

Often the family just wants money. It is not uncommon for insurance companies to offer out of court settlements in cases like this rather than going to trial even if they know they will win. It is cheaper to pay someone $25,000 now than spend $100,000 to win a trial later.

LMAO, Mike. As an old cop I have seen this from from all races and cultures and from all income levels. These people have blinded themselves to clear indicators that Little Johnny is on the road to perdition and when someone punches their Express Ticket, it's the same old song. I am more surprised when it doesn't happen, than when it does.

Sarge,

I must be majorly behind the power curve. When I was growing up and showed out, the neighbors would tell my folks. My Mom and Dad seemed to always accept our neighbors' views of what happened. As it turns out, the neighbors WERE correct and my brother and I would suffer the leather belt.

We had one neighbor kid whose parents ALWAYS believed their son could do no wrong. He lived a short and troubled life.

YES I would had shot him and shot him!! I would hope that they do NOTHING to him!!! IF so I would take it before 12 to see what they would do!

As Colonel Hessler said in Battle of the Bulge: "Release the child: shoot ze faser(father)!"

Gene pool in that family has been corrupted!

Who is paying the thug's hospital bill, I wonder. Do you think he got dropped from his health insurance plan recently because it did not measure up to Affordable Care Act standards? /sarcasm
