Have my XD's 45acp

Well I finally gave in and went big smack in a small package.
For me comfort is the 1st priority for my CC choices.

I have carried a full size 45 acp 1911. That is my preferred caliber.
Bad part is. Its not comfortable for me to carry. ( I know people do and like it just not for me)
My most comfortable carry piece is a Ruger LCP in .380.

I have been on a search trying different configurations. My best match so far has been a Taurus M327 in 327 Magnum. Very comfortable to carry and I have no issues with the 327 Magnum round. As a matter of fact its one of my favorites.
But this gun belongs to my wife and she has been hounding me to put it back in her drawer. She has summarily rejected every option I have provided as a replacement.

Not discounting another J frame, actually pretty sure I will buy another one. Maybe a 38 special.

Any way... Back on task. I wanted a Semi Auto to add to the mix.
Haven't found one I really like carrying IWB. They poke me in all the wrong places.

Pretty much decided I wanted to try a single stack. Maybe a 709 or similar offering.
But figured if I was going to do, Might as well try my preferred caliber.

Hence the XD's 45.
I dont have a long experience with it. Just a week so far.
Good week though. I have a couple hundred flawless rounds through it.
Regular ball, HP's and a bunch of hand loaded SWC's.
Perfect operation.
I had read about no wimping the slide when charging. So I dont.
Trigger is better than I expected after reading reviews. Its not like my 1911 for sure, but I have no issues and will not be upgrading mine.
I have been shooting it exclusively from the IWB holster using my normal drills.
The gun mounts perfectly for me. Hands the grip just right and comes right to the eye.
Good sight picture. Accuracy is very good. better than I expected.
Of course my hand loads shoot the best...
( subjective of course)
I have been carrying it all week. Very comfortable. Not too heavy.
So far I am rating the XD's 45 as a win for me. The size I want and the caliber I want.
Wife got her snubby back.

Here is the whole crew not counting the 1911. That has a new job.

For quite awhile I was carrying a S&W J frame model 649 in .357. Recently I bought a Springfield Armory EMP 9mm 1911 for daily carry. They are virtually the same size and weight, but I doubled my ammo capacity and got night sights with the EMP.

I tried the XD/s in .45 as well, but just didn't care for it much. Seemed well made and never malfunctioned, but it just wasn't for me.

I did not think it was too bad. more than my normal duty pistols but not near as bad as my 327 magnum in a snubby or the 357 magnum snubbys.
I actually think the LCP will sting your hand more with a stout .380 load.
The 45 is more of a hard push while the others are a smack. if that makes sense..

Sure. I've shot a Glock 21 and thought it wasn't really much worse than my Glock 19 depending on the load on each. Been thinking about a .45 carry pistol but don't want to go too far up the recoil curve

Way to go A pause!!!

I'm not sure why I DONT have an XD's in 45... Hmmm.

I've only shot one, and man oh man was it a good one. The guy who owned it had added some kind of trigger kit to it and had some stippling done to the grip. It stayed GLUED to my hand making follow up shots very easy. The trigger was nice, but I find most XD's have nice triggers and I cant say how much better this one was than a stock XD's

It's got a pretty low capacity though right? like 5 or 6 in the mag...?

I just remember how I shot it just as well as any of my full sized Glocks or other similar pistols (basically) keeping one raged hole at however many yards I was shooting (5-7?) The feel of the gun was amazing... and while it wasn't tiny, it was a very nice size for IWB carry.

I actually offered to buy it from the guy (for a very low price... cause I'm cheep, and he said no of course) But I've been in love with that gun ever since.

He actually had ANOTHER one in 9mm that he let me shoot. I think it had the same trigger modification, but maybe not the grip stippling? I don't remember exactly, but I do remember that I actually liked shooting and the actual feel of the 45 better than the 9mm.

I guess, since I've got a Glock 26 for IWB carry, (depending on how I'm dressed) and a Ruger LC9 (Original version) for pocket carry, I don't feel the need for anything else. I also have a Ruger LCP (Original version) in I want to carry something extremely small. I'm very happy with all 3 of those guns. Also they all have more capacity than the XD's 45, and modern 9mm and even 380 self defense ammo is good enough for me... As far as I know I guess. Besides, unless your dealing with something really small, like a 32, 25, or 22, we all know it's all about shot placement... Even with the smaller calibers, the same can be said.

I'm glad you are happy with your new gun. I still think it's a great choice and I am just a tinny bit jealous ;)

Powder River Precision has a spring kit, under twenty bucks I think, that works wonders with the XDs trigger.I hung on to my Kahr after the XDs came out because the trigger was a deal breaker for me but now I get to shoot a buddy's with that kit in it and the gun is impossible to fault now.

Spare Mags showed up yesterday, Very fast turn around.
Accepted on Tuesday received on Sat. Good deal.
Just in case you dont know. They are offering three free mags, Mag Pouch, And a couple doodads. for Free if you buy a XD's before Aug 31st 2015.

COZ, it looks like you have all 3 sizes of magazines. That's 5, 6, and 7 shots for those who don't know this fine little gun, yet.

You will loose only a smidgen of concealment by putting the Pearce Grip finger rest on the 5-round magazine. It make the gun noticeably easier to shoot. I recommend it.

Now you need to find the 4.0-inch version. It is easier to shoot accurately and conceals almost as well. Mags and trigger pull are identical to the 3.3-inch version. And if the holsters have an open bottom, they will work with either size.

I have had my XDs .45acp for over a year now and I like it very much. It fits my hand well and is probably more accurate than I am capable of but it puts the rounds where I want them. Honestly for me the felt recoil is no issue at all and only slightly more than with my 1911.

Have been carrying this thing for a couple more weeks now. Finding it very comfortable to carry.
In the summer I carry IWB against skin. Its not poking me any were. Its light enough that its not flopping around or pulling on my belt when walking around.
Even finding it easy out and in when I take it out of the holster to leave it in the car to go into the post office. From the public road. ( Hate having to do that, But dont want that Lib Post Master to freak out on me)
Nothing worse that fighting to get your weapon holstered while getting back in the car.

So far its hitting all my points. The Caliber I want to carry in a package that is easy and comfortable to carry all day long.

YEA!!!:D

I had an XDS 9mm purchased right before the recall. I waited a solid 30 days for my gun and when it came back the trigger was ruined.
Prior, the trigger was quite nice.
My hand never quite fit the XDS. I kept wanting to move my hand higher up the grip and half my pinky fit with a flush fitting mag, drove me nuts.

The Shield kicked the XDS' s butt in every way so I sold it.

I just bought an XDS 45 a few weeks ago and got my 3 free mags. :D
Same stiff trigger with long break and pretty good reset. Still doesn't fit my hand quite right and the recoil of the 45 tore up the web of my shooting hand pretty well first time out.

Kind of funny I bought a second XDS considering I wasn't satisfied with my first purchase yet here we are...:o

Congrats on the nice .45.
I've liked every XD I've shot (9mm & .40).
I enjoy the .45 acp in a small gun (HK45C) a lot, it's easier on the ears, if not the hands. Target handloads mike it quiet and soft shoting.

Hammerhead, you and I evidently have some differing ideas on "small gun" :D

The HK 45 Compact is only smaller than the full-sized version. I don't call it a small gun.

But I certainly do like to shoot my USP Compact in .40 caliber. Like you said, a lower pressure round like the .45 ACP would require less ear protection.

Thats why they make so many different kinds of guns. There is usually some thing for every one out there.

The XD's fits my hand like a glove. I mean I really like how it holds and draws for me.

I have other pistols where I actually have to push down on the rear of the slide with my off hand to get it into the web as I draw from my holster.
I did not even know I was doing that. I thought the gun felt good.
My Son noticed what I was doing and pointed it out.
" Dad what are you doing?"

The XD's draws in exactly the right location for me and it comes to my strong eye ready for action.
Recoil is not a problem for its intended use. I can control it just fine.
That being said its not my range gun. I will put about 25 rounds a week at any one session. If I want some more 45acp loving. I will pull out the 1911 for some extended fun.

The trigger is stiff, but crisp. I grew up with cheap guns and crappy triggers.
Taurus, ect. and learned how to shoot them.
SO this gun the trigger feels like a treat for me. I wont need to change it.

This gun has a specific role in my world.
I wanted a Big bore in a small easy to carry configuration that I could control.

So far it has tripped all my triggers.:)

You're right, it's not small like the OP's gun, but it feels pretty trim compared to the .45s I used to shoot. (Glock 21, USPs)
