I recently found a lefever shotgun that's missing a few parts and appears to have a homemade(read hacksaw) barrel shortening job. I am looking for an exploded parts diagram and info on where to find a buttstock for this gun. Thanks, James.

-Also, how do I tell the damascus barrels from plain steel barrels and if damascus is it safe to use with modern 12ga. loads.

There are at least three entirely different shotguns with the Lefever name. Which have you got? - Markings and detailed description, preferably pictures.

Damascus barrels can usually be recoginized by the pattern in the steel. It looks like a candy cane effect spiraling around the barrel. They are NOT safe for use with smokeless ammo. Most of the cautious experts these days are recommending they not be shot even with black.

can't post pics as I don't have a camera besides an old 35mm and nothing digital. The only markings that I can see are on the sideplates reading LeFever Arms Co. and what I'm taking to be a serial number of 159337 or something like that within a few digits. It is, or was, all blued with no case hardening or chrome/nickel, no engraving, minimally checkered narrow style fore-grip that has worn down with use(covers only area between barrels and doesn't come up around barrels like a beavertail), dual triggers, slide activated safety on the backstrap with checkered slide button, and appears to maybe have been set up for a straight english style grip as the bottom trigger strap is fairly short and doesn't have much curve in it,

This is the closest thing I could find for pics. Mine seems to have the same plain sideplates, and what appears to be the same swirl pattern on the barrel, but I'm not sure because my bluing is almost gone, the same three hole sides, and there is slight rust along the front of the barrels.
