Hatsan Model 70 Vortex air rifle

I don't know if this is the place to ask, but I'm toying with the idea of an air rifle so that I can shoot on my property.

You can't shoot a firearm other than in a shooting range here, unless you're actually hunting or protecting yourself. The former requires a hunting licence and the latter will hopefully never happen.

Sooooo, that leaves air rifles as a permissible option for plinking plates at 50m when at the forest cabin.

Hatsan seems a good brand, and the Mod 70 Vortex seems a good rifle for the money.

Is it?

Well, I took the plunge. Not expensive so I was happy to have a punt.

Certainly the general feedback on the brand and their vortex system seems positive...

Long time no hear.

Be interested in how it comes out.

I too have a mild interest in air rifles, mostly from my reading about Lewis and Clark and the Geridellhi (sp?) that saved them on many an occasion.

I took an interest in air rifles in about 2008 when all of the .22 ammo around here vanished. I don't know that specific model, but Hatsans were frequently recommended to me. Let us know how it shoots?

Hi all.
Yes, it’s been a while but it’s good to be back even if I’m still pretty snowed under...

Well, today I had the chance to shoot it and overall I’m very pleased with it. Hefty and well-built to my eye and comfortable.

I bought 10 little targets tailored for 10m. There are 12 concentric circles, all white before going black for the 10 and 11 rings and a 1/4” while circle in the very centre.

I spent 30 shots or so getting acquainted and sighted before trying a fresh target.

At 20 metres, seated, resting the elbow of my support arm and using the FO open sights, I managed a 35mm or 1.6” group of 5 shots with two in the 11 ring.
All in all, I am pleased. This will definitely be a fun, cheap means of shooting that doesn’t rely on my driving to the range. Plus, it can be an easy entry into shooting for my daughters when the time is right.

As regards the snap, then yes, it’s pretty loud.
I’d say it’s about as loud as my old MkIII on the first shot with a suppressor. Indoors, I’d say it wouldn’t hurt but is certainly louder than comfortable.
I’ll still wear hearing protection...

Darn, I just realized I could put up a 75 foot range in my crawl space.

Won't work for 22 with the lead in the air but an air rifle, hmmmm

The fact you’re considering putting a firing range under your floor speaks of your commitment to the cause!!
:D
Love it!!
