Guys, this has been covered before but I forgot the answer.

Just got my taurus 605 snubbie back from factory( it kept locking up).

They came back with a laundry list of items they fixed including adjusting the cylinder gap. It is now about .009, before it was about .002. Is .009 acceptable tolerance?

I'm not used to seeing so much daylight shining through the gap.

Oh and they sent me a free gun lock which was a nice touch.

Really, nobody knows the correct cylinder gap?

Just needed a quick answer from someone with knowledge, not a long thread.

Maybe I should have titled it "9mm vs.45" or "what's the best defense gun",or "what is the best concealed carry/weapon" or perhaps my favorite "How many people own a glock?"

Could probably find a few "experts" on those topics.

Sorry about the attitude, but when you need to know something and you don't feel like b.s.ing around you feel like you are in the wrong lane at the supermarket.

We need a quick advice doctor for simple stuff like this.

Generally accepted that .006 is optimum to allow for cylinder expansion from heat while keeping gas escape to a minimum. .002 is too small. .009 is a mite too big, but you won't get cylinder binding. Was that your "locking up" problem?

Jim

.009 is a little wide ,but not so i'd worry.better wide than tight in one you need to work every time.

Jim,thanks for the info. It does appear to the naked eye that .009 is big and that's why I was concerned when I opened the package today.

I don't know if the .002 was the cause of the lockup but I suspected it was since it occured after the gun heated up.

They also adjusted the barrel alignment, the cylinder yoke,a bent firing pin,and the front sight so I guess I got a lemon from the assembly line.

Hope I don't have any problems now,I'll know on Friday at the range.
