Has anyone tried this Red dot?

Haven't even heard of it. So why do you think it looks like a winner? What do you plan to use it for? If you want to plink cans with a .22 lr, it might be great. If you want it on a self defense or hunting gun, cheaper optics often is not he way to go.

That should be the cat's pajamas on a Mini , I have a Millett on mine and love it . I'd never seen the Lucid before , if it works as good as it looks it should be a keeper !

if it works as good as it looks it should be a keeper !

And therein lies the crux of the problem. Lots look good, but don't stand up well to use.

Its not that cheap

$170 for the scope
$39 for the 2x

It is cheap for a red dot with a 2x magnifier. If the magnifier is $39 of the price, then my guess is that it is garbage. The red dot is cheap compared to sites such as Trijicons, Aimpoints, and Eotechs.

You still haven't said what you want it for.

In had the Vortex Strikefire and it wasn't that great the dot was not very bright even on hi, and the 2x mag was a joke. For just a little more you could get a Aimpoint which is probaly the best red dot on the market.

It is not really that cheap. Why not save a little more and get an Eo or an Aimpoint. The body of it is an attempt to copy an ACOG's appearance so that should give you a clue to it's quality if they can not even come up with their own design.

Never heard of them. I learned a long time ago that when it comes to red-dots and lasers, don't buy cheap and stick to brand names. Otherwise most likely you'll end up buying another one down the road when "the one you bought cause it was cheaper" craps out on you. In the long run it'll cost you just as much or even more.

I have no experience with a Lucid dot sight, so can’t help you there. But I do have experience with Ultradot sights, that run about the same price. I had a M1911A1 with a slide mounted Ultradot. Slide mounted mind you. That means every time the pistol fired, the dot sight moved with the slide. It slammed rearwards then forwards 10’s of thousands of times, and I never had a bit of troubles with it. I then mounted it on a .22 target pistol for 10’s of thousands more rounds. It now is back in it’s original box resting until I decide to mount it on something else. Price isn’t automatically a means to rate a product as good or bad. Most times it is, but not always. $150 to $180 is the price range for Ultradots, and in my book, they are one of the best. I’ve bought dot sights in the $300 price range and had them fall apart, literally, within the first 5 or 6 rounds. The $150 Ultradot has held up fine.

He said he wanted to put it on a mini 30 in his second post.

Yes, but I asked what he was going to use it for, not what he was going to put it on. When he didn't reply, I re-asked.

If he wantst to put it on his mini 30 and shoot squirrels, rabbits, yotes, cans, etc., it may be fine. If his mini 30 is his defensive rifle, I would look elsewhere.

I hunt Texas boars with a mil surplus mauser

i am looking to pick up a semi auto rifle, cause the pigs get grouchy when you shoot them....

I wanted a red dot because a fast moving pig is tough to find in a regular scope (at least for me)

Excellent. That sounds like a great use for an unproven optic, though I think I would hold off on buying one given that nobody has heard of it. Still, if you do buy it, then trying to kill hogs sounds like a great way to field test it.

Given the grouchy hog scenario, I would do it from an elevated stand.

Regardless of what I think, however, if you do buy it, then you have to do the full review. Maybe this will be a new treasure!

no doubt the 2x magnifier is a joke but to me it isnt needed anyway. A non magnified dot can be accurate to a 100 yards and is minute of man out to 200. The first unit i got was the changeable red green and its was like you said to dim for outside. They replaced it with the new red only model that is suppose to have a brighter dot. Ive been using this one on my smith ar22 and its just as bright as my aimpoints and has been bouncing around in the truck for 3 months and holds zero. Other then battery life i cant see what my aimpoints do better other then drain my wallet.

My bet is that we are going to see more and more of these types of products and brands pop up on the market. Having been in the industry for over 10 years, I have seen several key managers leave their "parent" company to start an "optics" business - Alpen is a good example.

Based on the guy's background - he came from Brunton, where I suspect he made good contacts with overseas manufacturers of red dot scopes. He saw the opportunity and went after that. I would not be surprised if "his" factory made the scopes for Bushnell or even Vortex. It happens all the time.

Is it a good buy? The only way to tell is to put several of these scopes through the paces. Time will tell.

As suggested, "His" factory makes the Lucid, Vortex, and one other. It is also a source of Eotech and Aimpoint components.

What, you think all those Aimpoints still come out of Sweden? Mine did, Gen1, not so much these days.

Eotechs and Aimpoints are getting a good beating in SWAsia, they are failing and soldiers know it. Grit, impacts, and the daily grind take them all down, it's why BUIS are mandatory. Save your money unless you need prestige.

The mid range optics are going to be a big seller in the near future, there is a slight downturn in the economy, duh, and the average shooter doesn't need life and death quality optics on their range plinker. It's a simple matter of money management, the newer AR buyers are paying double for a firearm to get into this game, and the cost of a red dot doesn't compare to the mid range scopes that actually have magnification that adjusts.

If a report on the Lucid is desired, check youtube for madogre's test, or weaponsevolution for a report with photos. You'll get an experienced user's review without the ethnic bashing.

FWIW guys,

I have a Bushnell 1x32 Trophy dot scope and, after 9 months of use, it's holding zero and the battery is going strong. For $133 delivered, it's a great choice!

Has both red/green reticle and has both the "dot" as well at a "T" cross hair.

Works great in both low light and bright sunny days. Multiple brightness setting for each color reticle.

To co-witness with a BUIS, I had to get the YHM eotech riser, but it was pretty cheap. $30.00 here
